- Hartford, CT, USA

I saw two beautiful Maltese puppies online and contacted the company Buckymaltesepuppies.com A person named Andre Morton Jr/or Courtney Deal returned my request. Having been in the market for a dog, the site seemed legit. They talked about their services as other sites have. I even filled out a short questionnaire which I have had to do with other dog groups such as Puppyfinder.com.

I purchased the two dogs for $1300. $500 a piece plus $150 for shipping from Austin, TX (or so I was told). They requested I use Walmart2Walmart to send the money. When I went in, the store was hesitant to put the payment through because I did not know the person I was sending the money to. They processed it. The scammer was unable to get the money because Waltmart2Walmart had blocked the transaction at the national office. They did not pay.

So, on the advice of the seller, I set up a Cashapp site and paid a "Gillo" $1300. I do have a contract that was signed by both parties for two dogs, Ginger and Nala.

The next day (Jan 19, 2021) I received a contract from the Courier service setting up shipping via plane. It startled me that I was being requested to pay $1850 for an air-controlled crate. I was to be refunded upon acceptance of the dogs. When I went to Cashapp, the payment would not go through because I had gone to the monthly limit by paying $1300 for the dogs on Jan 18. Paypal would not let a payment go through. I next set up a Zele account through my bank, Santander Bank. I did make a $750 payment to the courier service; $750 a day is the limit of which you can send money.

After paying the $750, I still owed $1100.00 which I was asked to purchase gift cards to pay the $1100. That is when I realized that I had been scammed. I immediately asked the company to cancel the contract and refund my money. In fact, I requested that the deal be dissolved and my money returned eight times. Each time, they kept trying to get me to send money. I stopped communication with them and am now in the process of filing scam reports.

I take full responsibility that I should not have sent money to someone I did not know. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will most probably not received money back. That said, it would be remiss of me not to make agencies aware of what happened in hopes of finding these people and shutting down their scam. I realize that I was thinking emotionally because I had lost my dog of 14 years this past spring. To take advantage of someone at a vulnerable time in their life, is especially egregious. I hope that by speaking up, others will avoid a repeat of this fraud.
