TLDR; About three weeks ago I found a private lender who was willing to give me 50,000 for 60 months at 5% with paybacks starting on Jan 21st, 2021. Lender is not giving me the loan nor a refund and was not upfront about costs to get the loan.

I'm trying to find lawyers to help in giving me advice on the matter. But not sure who I should be looking for as far as representation. Predatory lending, lending fraud, consumer services....etc..

A quick timeline:

Sept 20th

I received the first communication from the lender stating he can give me a loan.

I reply and make two offers

Lender agrees to give me $50,000 at 5% interest for 60 months

We go back and forth on details, basic questions, etc.

Sept 21st

Lender makes me aware there is a loan processing fee for $1130.

Lender assures me that there are no other fees and that he will process the loan and wire to my account once funds are verified.

Sept 23rd

I make the payment as a cash deposit to their account in order to make sure there are no holds to worry about.

Sept 24th

Lender the requests $2030 more because he needs to cover payment protection insurance.

He has never mentioned any possibility of this before, and I'm taken off guard.

I ask that this wasn't mentioned before and lender assumed I knew, and stated that this is refundable.

Ok...

I ask if this is the last thing needed, and if there is the remote possibility of any other fees.

He confirms, again stating he will wire the loan once the funds are there.

I tell him I cant until the 28th and he confirms that will be fine.

Sept 28th

I deposit the $2030 as a cash deposit again. (All receipts saved, for anyone wondering)

He claims there is a hold on the cash deposit.

Sept 29th

Lender then comes back late in the day to express that there is now a $55 late fee PER DAY since the 24th.

At this point, there's no money left in my account and no way of obtaining that amount.

We go back and forth as recently as this posting date but I'm not getting anywhere and he is refusing to either give me a full refund or process the loan.

My accountants are negative, the opportunity losses are substantial, and due to his persistence in not giving me enough information upfront I am in dire straits of losing my home.

All correspondence, save one phone call has been through email. So I all have are the empty promises.
