On May 24,2022 I placed a call to HP to help with my printer. A chat box appeared asking if I needed help. I said I needed help installing the scanner. I was referred to a technician who said she was blocked from my printer because my computer had been hacked and nothing was secure and private. They would need to take over my computer to fix the virus and put in a firewall before they could work on installing my scanner. The second technician had a very heavy accent and spoke very quickly and acted impatient when I questioned him about something. After about 45 minutes the technician called back and said he had made the computer secure and put in a firewall and proceeded to install the scanner on my HP printer. Then the first technician called back and said it would be $400.00 for the complete fixation and years network protection, firewall, and tech support. I wasn’t able to get control of my computer until I gave my credit card number. I thought this was a legitimate HP help line and instead found out it was a scam. I have know idea if Geek Techline stole all my information and if my computer is now actually comprised. I have started the process of disputing the service with my credit card company and hope for a positive resolution. I’m 74 yrs old and feel like I was targeted based on my profile.

During problems with an HP Printer install, a chat box appeared asking if we needed help. We replied that we couldn't get our new printer to install.
They directed us to go to LOGMEIN, so they get into our computer and see what problem was. From there, they informed that we had "intruders" in our computer as our IP address wasn't secure. We were showed a list of names with a bunch of computer code following the names. Asked if we knew any of these people. We did not. We were told they were "bad intruders" and we need a computer clean up and a network firewall security. We would up charging $449.97. I believe this was a scam.

I used these people to supposedly fix my computer. Did you find out if it was a scam?
