I was trying to get a payday loan and he used my company’s name saying that he worked for them.

Threatened to message with my account

- Mountain View, CA, USA

Email received, supposedly opened an account. debit card supposedly sent. Called to ensure not ID theft. They asked for SS. Told them no. Wanted to make certain they Not have my info instead of it being a typo. Sounded Clueless. Sent me back to phone menu. Tried other phone, they sent me to number not currently available that then hung up. Website gave New Mexico licensing board as source of license- website lists all AceCash as expired or invalid. Hoping that it merely phishing and not any actual ID theft

I received a call from a man named "Dave" at "Ace Cash (and a seemingly deliberate inaudible third word)" asking if I was still interested in securing an installment loan. I thot for sure he was with "Ace Cash Express" who I've done business with for a while. He said I was approved for $2,000 dollars and asked if my credit rating was at least 600 or so. I said no, not quite that high. He then informed me I would need to enter into a loan protection program if, perhaps, I lost income, etc., to cover my payments. I've had this type of protection before and it's invaluable. So, I said okay. He then told me to purchase a Google Play Gift Card for $150 to secure the protection and call him back when finished. I got home, and as it turned out to be my saving grace, attempted to peel off the scratch code instead of scratching it off with a coin. He requested the scratch code number which, of course, was now illegible. Calls and texts including photos of Walgreen's receipt and gift card..then I had to finally contact Google Play. I'm still confirming the status of the card with Google Play..as of right now, I'm still out of the $150..my bank account has not been wiped out (I had texted this man back telling him I had found another lender...that my bank needed his website..my personal financial monitors would be contacting him..LOL..and thanked him SO much for trying to help!)

I received a text stating I was approved for a loan for up to $5000. I called the number back and spoke with a guy with a heavy middle eastern accent. I asked him for the company's website and he gave me acecashexpress.com. I asked for the company's email address and pretended that he emailed me while we were on the phone. He even knew my "junk" email address that I use for subscriptions etc.. I asked why he isn't calling from a 800 number and he said he works in the online approval dept and they don't have 800 numbers. I told him I would call him back and I contacted the real Ace. They stated they would never call from an 972 number and they don't service the state I live in. I've blocked this persons number.

Received an email supposedly “Ace Cash Express” indicating that they will grant me a loan for $5000 and it had a breakdown of all the details. I’ve heard from this company before and had made business with them in the past with no problem.

Here’s the catch, this is not “Ace Cash Express” but rather a scammer.

Little did they know, I use to live in Florida and know by heart that there is no such “TEMPA FL” but a “TAMPA FL”. the address used for this “company” it’s so fake it’s not even funny. I also noticed that there’s no actual link to their website but a “direct email” link which raised a big red flag when I read that the domain was outlook instead of their business domain. Went to the “real” Ace to confirm my suspicions and I did, the email was a scam, a big scam. All the documents attached were fake, also dated back to 2014 where the information written didn’t match at all what they were offering.

Please be careful with your private information, and don’t fall for this scams, do your diligence and do some research before you provide any sensitive information to them. You can and will be robbed of your identity and your money as well in the future.

Here’s a copy/paste of the email.

I got an email from a Charles Becker claiming to be from Ace cash Express saying i had applied and been approved for an 8000.00 installment loan. I immediately emailed back the word SCAM. He then replied with a PDF file of loan papers. They actually had company letterhead and all. I called the number and it was a man of middle eastern decent who demanded my name. I gave him a fake name. He proceeded to tell me I needed to go purchase a prepaid card and load 500.00 on it in order for them to deposit this so called loan in my bank account. Of course he wanted all my info, name, ss, bank info, address etc... Im actually getting up to 10 scam calls daily ranging from "IRS" to phishing. I have been living and taking care of my 89 year old mother in law over 10 years, and of course the home phone is in her name. This has got to stop. These scammers put the fear of God in these elderly people and make serious threats of being arrested, felony charges and so many awful things, If my husband and I were not here, she would literally give them everything they asked for out of fear. This has to stop. Elderly people shouldnt have to worry about this.
