First red flag they're selling the kittens for $650 stating that it's a "COVID" sale ? I've attached a likely convo you'll encounter if it's them. Also they haven't sent pedigrees or videos as requested, because they don't exist.

The moment I informed them I don't do cashapp or zelle I only pay in cash and I would prefer to pick up whichever kitten I choose. The person responded with "Buy from a pet shop”. When buying a cat previously, no one has had an issue with a meetup location or picking up the cat myself. It's kind of fishy when they expect a cashapp or a Venmo payment first without being able to see the cat first.

I just went through the same crazy, upsetting chaos! I sent them (stupidly) $450 through Zelle on Thursday and from there everything went South. They are supposedly located in Kansas... my friend lives 30 minutes from the address they provided and I asked them when she could visit the cattery. They originally welcomed the idea but, when I messaged them saying she wants to come today after 2pm... I then called the number... no answer. Surprise... they have completely ignored me since yesterday morning. So heartbreaking... that $ could have even gone to a rescue or anywhere to do some good... instead it went to crooks!

Anyone have any luck getting the $ back sent through Zelle? I called my bank and they said they'll "try" to get it back ?

I was searching for an affordable maine [censored] kitten on craigslist (knowing there is potential for scam). I found the most perfect looking kitten and reached out to the contact provided. They were quick to send a poorly formatted email that appeared to have great information that couldve been copy/pasted. They provided what appeared to be legit photos of kittens however the first confusion came when the kitten photo that they posted on the craigslist ad was not included in the grouping. I continued to talk to the person to choose the kitten I wanted. I requested some photos and videos and they were able to provide two photos and one video of each kitten. They proceeded with creating a bill of sale for the kitten. Once I received the bill of sale things became fishy. The address provided was in "Cleverland" Ohio. Thinking back to an hour prior, the person told me that once I paid the cat would be delivered to me within 3 hours. I live 5+ hours from Cleveland. I began my credibility search with a search of the name provided. I could not access the name anywhere online on any platforms. This wasnt incrimenating enough yet. I searched the address online to find that the house was recently listed on Zillow for sale. I clicked through the photos of the house and compared to the bright blue background included in the photos of the kittens and there was not a single bright blue wall in the house. I then typed the website address into a Google search rather than into the address bar. This Scam Adviser link came up https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/adorablemaincoonkittens4homes.com. Some of the negative reviews of the site were: The website's owner is hiding his identity on WHOIS using a paid service, This website has only been registered recently, We found several negative reviews about this site, This website is not optimized for search engines. I scrolled a little further and someone had reviewed the source prior to the owner hiding their identity and the review stated "Breeder indicated that they lived in Ohio. WhoIs search listed them in Iceland." Further down the page the IP address origination shows to be in DE with an address being Kalkofnsvegur 2 101 Reykjavik Capital Region. At this point, I requested kindly that they send some more photos/videos of the kittens interacting with one another and potentially some photos/videos of the parents with the kittens as the seller claimed that the cats roamed freely in their home together. The seller responded with "I won't do that", "The parents are no longer with the litters", "the questions are now too much", "if you are not ok buy from someone else". I explained $400 is a lot to send over Zelle or Apple Pay with minimal information on the pet. The seller responded that he is an "honest Christian" and that "taking my money and not sending the kitten is against his religion". I simply responded " ok, well if you can, please send some more photos of the two kittens and let me know what vet they have been to for their checkups and we will proceed in purchasing. The seller responded that he had sent enough pics and that many have bought seeing just the pic on the website and that they had done well sending many pics and that I could have no more pics.

Some red flags:

1. they only deliver the kittens, no pickup/meet

2. they only take Zelle or Apple Pay. Although great methods of paying those you trust, not a great amount of spam protection.

3. the scam adviser site was already tipped off on this website.

4. the seller was not open to disclosing vet information or providing any additional photos of the cats interacting. It was almost like they at one point had these cats and then sold them but are still advertising to make an extra $400 here and there.

5. the craigslist kitten photos were not the same as what was on the website. one of the craigslist photos was actually one that was searchable when looking up "Maine [censored]" in the image bar.

The post has since been flagged for removal on craigslist however I was hoping to share my experience to prevent anyone from sending this scammer money.

We were purchasing a Main [censored] from Craig’s List for $400. The kitten was to be shipped the next day. This is what we received via email through the shipping service:

“Welcome To Air Mail Shipping services

Ohio Branch,

Dear Client,

We assume you have been following up shipping of your kittens by tracking on our website. This email is intended to expatiate on the recent developments on the tracking info. Your kitten`s file went

in for a last-minute checkup and it was confirmed that all the necessary shipping and home delivery documents are available for transporting the kitten to you as per the USDA APHIS | Animal

Welfare Laws for shipping a kittens from one state to the other in fear of not being quarantined Within the USA. The only problem is that your kitten needs an Inter-state life insurance cover. Your kitten has not yet been insured and he must be insured before we can proceed with delivery today. Inter state insurance covers the Kitten across the US and around the world. ORIGIN OF THIS REFUNDABLE LIFE INSURANCE SCHEME. This life insurance scheme was introduced to protect the lives of animals or pets traveling within and outside the United States. This is because animals and pets have lost their lives through accidents

and illness while transportation and delivery agencies have usually

been forced to pay huge amounts as compensation. For this reason, the Life Insurance for Animals was introduced so that if anything happens to your animals during transportation in case of an accident, wrong delivery, Injury or Illness, stress or pain, lost or dead, the agency will be free from any charge as the insurance

will cover the compensation or fee placed on them and not our agency.

Due to a good number of complaints by clients of numerous shipping

agencies about this Insurance scheme cost, the US/EU Animal Aviation

Commission came out with a Refundable Animal Life Insurance Scheme.

This helps to cover your pet while traveling so much so that in case of anything you are to be reimbursed. With a successful delivery of your kittens at your address, our insurance company will fully refund your money courtesy of our delivery agent.

THE INSURANCE COST IS REFUNDABLE UPON A SUCCESSFUL DELIVERY OF YOUR

KITTENS AT YOUR ADDRESS. YOU'LL NEED TO PRESENT A VALID

IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENT BE IT A DRIVERS LICENSE. As for the Refundable Insurance fee and the acclimation certificate

which will be done today, you are going to deposit the money to the

Insurance branch office in Ohio. This is an affordable insurance cover that protects your kitten while on board. The life

insurance cost plus the acclimation certificate is ($1000.00) and you are

to get 95% of the fee REFUNDED to you upon delivery. Get back to us for payment details as soon as you are ready to make payment.”

Obvious red flags were going off so I started communicating with the original seller. He said we should trust them and he uses them all the time. After much investigation I learned that the seller and the shipping company were the same person. Definitely a scam.
