Target received phone call from someone named "Nick", claiming to be her grand-nephew and having been in a car accident and was now in a jail in Boston. He claimed to need $5,000 in bail money immediately, and begged her not to tell anyone else in the family, saying this was his only phone call and he was desperate for help. Arrived at Target home a few minutes later, she informed me of the situation and was worried. Target had only been released from hospital 72 hours earlier, and was starting to get upset. Immediately recognized the scam (kudos to Fort Wayne, IN BBB for informing the public about this some months ago via local news media including WOWO-AM), informed Target of what was actually going on, explained how the process worked. A few minutes later, Target's phone rang, 617 area code, noted full caller ID number (which could easily be false), scammer identified himself as an attorney by the name of "Alex Jones" (founder of Infowars, stupid name for this scammed to choose), did not fully name the "nephew" nor the charges/specifications. At that point, I asked the scammed if he knew what he was doing was a felony and that it is a crime to steal from 89 year-old ladies. Dead silence from the other end. I then called the local police (non emergency number) to provide details on the attempt for their records/tracking/investigation.
