Big Amazon scammer

- San Antonio, TX, USA

I tried calling Amazon Customer service and received the message that you could not talk to a customer service representative in person due to Covid-19. I did a Bing internet search and saw a website for Amazon Prime customer service listing a 1 (877) 687-6588 phone number. I called the number and requested either a refund or remove my credit card as a method of payment for my girlfriends acccount . The individual stated he could help me but asked if I was on a computer. He requested the normal information for Amazon like the email address for my girlfriends account. He continued with requesting my credit card information and stated that I needed to log on a google website for he could transfer me to another department for the refund due to Covid-19. Once I logged on he stated he needed remote access and when I questioned him stated this was the new process for working from home. He gave me his name and employee code and gave me a number on a site so he could get remote access. After gaining remote access he notebooked his Name, address, and employee code and asked that I log in to my email so I could confirm the transaction. The process was over 30 minutes and at some point my computer screen went black. He started phishng and once he mentioned a debit card and checking account for a faster refund I got nervous and felt I should check my credit card account immediately. He brought my view back on my desktop. Once I checked my card I noticed a charge to Target.com for $200 with a credit back for $200 and a charge to Walmart.com for a Microsoft X-Box Digital Gift Card priced at $55.00. I called the credit card company and initiated a fraud report.

Stated they were customer service to help close my account with Amazon Prime. Directed me to purchase an iTunes prepaid card and call them back with the card id number so they could process my refund within the hour. When I questioned this process I was told it was their policy as they do not keep credit card information on file. When I asked to speak with a supervisor I was cussed out and hung up on. I searched for a different amazon help line and reached the actual company. They confirmed I had spoken to a scam company that gets the id number for the iTunes then calls to cancel the card and collect the number. A web search of the number shows it bogusly linked to over 10 different companies.
