Tried to purchase a dog online. Paid for the dog then shipping company asked for crate fee, then insurance on dog.

I was going to buy 2 puppies from a pet website called Prime Puppies Shop (which also turned out to be a scam website) and Prime Puppies Shop sent me an email saying that the puppies were put on hold from being shipped from Houston, Texas to San Francisco because they needed a new crate. They then linked me to the American Logistics Freight website and claimed that it was a legitimate pet delivery website. It got really suspicious when American Logistics Freight started asking us for more money to ship the puppies and later said that we could pay them with a VISA card.

I purchased a pug puppy through readypug.com, which also seems to be part of the scam. Ready pug said they use American Logistics Freight to ship their puppies to their new owners. No additional charges were ever mentioned. The shipping company contacted me the morning the dog was getting shipped and requested a crate deposit for the shipping crate that would be needed to safely ship the puppy to me. They reported that the money would all be refunded upon return of the crate once the puppy was delivered to me. About an hour and a half before the puppy was due to arrive at my home they called and requested an additional $2000 for insurance on the animal to be shipped. However the puppy had supposedly already made it to New Mexico without any insurance and was due to be at my home an hour and a half later. I did not feel this sounded reasonable as the insurance was never mentioned before the puppy was shipped and I only paid $500 for the puppy so $2000 did not seem like a reasonable price for insurance, which is always lower than the value of the item anyway. He told me if I did not pay the $2000 additional dollars that I would not receive the puppy. This was not right as I was never made aware of the additional

$3500 ($1500 crate deposit and $2000 for insurance) that American Logistics Freight would be requesting in addition to the $699 I had already paid Ready Pug($499 for the puppy and $200 for shipping).

I found two puppy siblings of my dream dog on Craigslist and chose to trust it because I was very hopeful. I was told that they were want to give up the "babies" to anyone that willing to take them and asked me a series of questions. I wouldn't have to pay for the dogs because they were apparently given as a gift to the people. However when they found out that I lived about 3 hours away from NYC (where they were located), they told me that they just relocated to Los Angeles California and the puppies would have to be shipped (after I said I was willing to drive down and get them). Unfortunately I stupidly paid $500 for the transportation company (originally they wanted me to pay through Zelle, although I did it through a Visa gift card so they would not have my bank account information). Then last minute when they were supposed to be shipped, I received an email from the company saying that they were unsuitable for transportation due to Covid-19 (which frankly makes no sense for what they were asking for) and weather so I would have to pay $1000+ for a thermo-crate. If I didn't pay within the hour then they would not board the flight and I would have to pay extra fees later. When I went back and emailed the lady telling her about this and asking how I can be sure that it's not a scam, she tried to pressure me into still paying. All of her emails had lots of typos which made me not fully trust it from the beginning.

Here is the ladies email from the craigslist ad: [email protected]

There was a listing for a puppy on Craigslist, they then proceeded to direct me to a transporting company for the dog. The transporting company charged me $350 then right after that asked for another $1500. I asked for my money back and the disconnected the line.

- Golden Valley, AZ, USA

They said a special crate was need to ship. When I refused, they started making threats.
