About a week ago i starting receiving text messages stating that i can track my USPS package but i didn't mail off anything. Then i received another text message stating that i need to text or call that number to let them know that i received the package. But once again i ignored it. But this morning i received my mail to find a flat rate package in the pile. When i opened it i found a letter and a fake check. I called that bank to see if it was real ( which it was) and i advised them that i received what looks like a fake check from that bank. Shortly after making that phone call i received another text message from that mystery number stating that i need to deposit the check and then go buy the gift cards. I haven't contacted this person.

Fake Mystery Shopper- Scam

My sister received and email to become a secret shopper. She passed the email to me and I replied. Three weeks past and on late Friday evening I receive an email stating that I was selected to become a secret shopper. I needed to verify my address. I never responded to the email but the follow Tuesday I received a check in the mail for $2377 and direction. I was told to cash the check and take $2000 to Walmart to purchase 4 gift cards to be used at a later time for other secret shopping assignments. Once the cards were purchased I was to take a picture of the card front and back. I was to be peeled off the silver scratch-off area on the card prior to taking a photo. My sister did further investigation on the company as found out it was fraud. I never cashed the check or went to Walmart to purchase the gift cards.

First this individual was texting me frequently asking about a job/something he sent.

I didn’t know the person so I didn’t reply. Finally, his last text was demanding payment or he planned to take legal action. I asked exactly what was sent and I didn’t accept anything for which I had not made payment. He again threatened legal action. Once I asked a detailed question or so he cut off communication. I informed him my attorney was my husband and I would be reporting this as it sounded fishy.

Today I received a check with instructions to wire two thousand dollars to a different individual. I called both numbers attached and there is not even a VM established at either number.

I attached a picture of the check, but also have a picture of the accompanying letter if needed.
