1 year ago i was checking local restaurant menus when suddenly the screen turned red
alarms rang and a warning and number flashed that i needed to call microsoft. called the number, was told a virus had been loaded. they forwarded me to a company that could fix it and protect from further problems...Archon shield w/ Adguard. paid $199. on credit card for 3yrs service & support. w/lifetime firewall and browser security. 1-888-577-5003 (not in service). merchant- Web Designs World .billed somewhere in Spain. Contact was Robin
Recently started receiving numerous calls (5-7 daily) from a St Louis #1-314-366-6273
two voicemails stating that the software they downloaded may be corrupt and that i had to call to have them go in and remove. Then said if I didnt call to "cancel' they would be charging my card another $199. and that i couldnt "blame the company" if that happened! They just told me theyre software was defective and want to charge me again? The number they gave me to call was 1-680-444-2650... of course no one answers. Locked and cancelled credit card today. Not sure what tomorrow will bring

They keep calling me and saying they are moving to Canada and have to give me a refund. They want access to my computer but they do not know my Archon Shield password. Told them that without the password I will not give them access. They finally stopped calling.

I was also looking for a recipe when my computer locked & the Ransomware scam began!

Monday, Sept/14/2020, when I was on my home internet, on a website (not an email) my Chromebook computer locked & I got bright flashing visual & loud repetitive vocal & bells sounding messages that were a "Microsoft alert & I should call 1-888-523-1564 immediately". I did call & I was told that Cyrus, who was a "Microsoft Windows support technician", could fix my problem, but it would cost $298.00 US ($403.26 CAD) & I would be a premium member for 10 years for security & technical support. He directed me to install "Chrome Remote Desktop", which I did, & he did things on my computer so that it wasn't locked anymore & he said that he installed antivirus software & installed/ran spyware tools. He asked for the following information & I gave him my name, email ID, phone #, address & credit card details. He said the name of the company is: Anchon Shield (https://www.archonshield.com/) & that the credit card transaction would show on my bill as "Web Designs World SL". He sent me an email of the credit card transaction, which I had asked for, & I saw that the address was Madrid, Spain. He said I should call the phone number: 1888-577-5003 (his extension at 1007 or talk with someone else) in the future anytime I need help & every 2-3 months to ask for a "check-up" on my computer. He also gave me a password to ask for if someone calls me to access my computer system. I did some research on the internet & found another company with the same phone number: https://www.a2zpcprotection.com/. I emailed [email protected] ro ask "How long has your company been in business & where are you located, please?" but got no reply so I called there & asked some fellow the same questions; he said they're located in San Francisco & have been in business for 10 years. The two websites say they are located in Canada! Before 6pm, I contacted a friend who has recently retired from the RCMP, after 35 years of service, & asked for his opinion as to whether he thought this was a legitimate company or had I been scammed; he said he never heard of the company so he didn't know if it was ligit or not. I didn't sleep that night.
The next day, I thought: 'I've been scammed with Ransomware. What should I do to protect my computer system, financial & personal information? When I had Rogers IgniteTv & wifi installed in Jan/2020, I was told that the company has security measures in place, so how did this happen to me in the first place?'. I spoke with my retired RCMP friend & he recommended that I have no more involvement with that company (in question) again & I should go to Staples & get the technician to install Norton Antivirus software on my computer.
I had paid with my Rogers MasterCard. When I called Rogers Bank, this morning, to tell them I was a victim of a Ransomware scam & to ask her to block the pending transaction she said she couldn't stop it, but that after it goes through, I can dispute it. I gave her my card details & answered all of her security questions & then my phone battery went dead. I left my phone to charge the battery. I locked my credit card online.
I then went to the Rogers store where I bought the Rogers Ignite Tv & wifi services from & where I also applied for & received a Rogers MasterCard. He told me he doesn't deal in technical matters & gave me the phone number of Rogers Bank. I told him I already called there & they were no help. I asked for the phone number where I could get help from Rogers to protect my financial & personal information, on my computer, from being stolen & he gave me another phone number for Rogers.
I called that Rogers phone number & chose the option "technical support". I briefly explained that I was a victim of a Ransomware scam using Rogers wifi & I asked what I should do to protect my financial & personal information, on my computer, & stop the financial transaction from going through. Glen helped me by telling me to:1. call Rogers Bank again & try to get some help with that financial situation;2. if the company I was directed to phone when my computer locked was associated with Microsoft, they wouldn't have charged for technical support to unlock my computer;3. he also gave me the phone number of the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre (CAFC) to report the scam;4. he said I should bring my computer to a bonded certified IT person to check my computer & I said I would bring it to Staples which was one of the places he suggested.
I called Rogers Bank again & got through to the fraud department. Ivan said he would cancel my Rogers MasterCard & rush a new MasterCard to me which should arrive by courier in about 5 business days. He said I should contact the merchant & ask for a refund, but I said I already called Cyrus, the same guy from Anchon Shield, to ask for a refund & he said they couldn't give one. I said to Ivan that I'd like to dispute the charge so he said for me to call his department after the transaction goes through; he explained that the charge is pending & can't be blocked (Why, I don't know!).
I called the CAFC but the message said the lines are busy & to file a report on their website or call back later & then it hung-up.
I went to Staples to get my computer checked. Frank, the bonded certified IT person there, said that I have to change the password to have access to my computer & change all the passwords to all the websites I have accounts with (and there are over 40, to the best of my knowledge). He said that no antivirus software could be put on my Chromebook so he wouldn't touch my computer at all & didn't offer any other suggestions about what I could do. I had to beg him to explain to me, on one of Staples' Chromebooks on display, how to change my password to have access to my computer. Frank also said that my computer is run by Google with a Chrome operating system, not Microsoft with Windows (Surprise!). I left there feeling distressed knowing I was pretty well all on my own with this scam problem!
Tonight, I'm changing as many passwords as I can & that was only 10 of them. I didn't sleep well.
Wed., Sept/16/2020 I looked at reporting online to the CAFC, but it looked so complicated, so I decided to call them again as soon as they opened, at 9am. Meanwhile, I'm in the process of continuing to change my passwords; it's a slow tedious job & very stressful. I called the CAFC at 9am sharp & got the same message as I got the day before & then it hung-up again. I called the CAFC again, later, but got the same message & hang-up.
I received my new Rogers MasterCard by courier, but before activating it I checked to see if the illegal financial transaction had gone through...& it had. I called Rogers Bank fraud department & spoke with T.L. who I asked to dispute the financial transaction (in question). He was very helpful & asked for me to email a copy of the financial transaction that I had asked to be mailed to me. I told him that I have been recording the information in a draft email about this nightmare of a scam so he asked if I could email that too which I will. I had also asked the scam artist, Cyrus, to email me information about what had just happened & I did receive something from him which I will also forward to T.L..

This is 100% a phishing scam. After fooling my mother into a call with them which I unfortunately believed their lies about my computer being infected they kept me on the line while taking my card information and repeating themselves several times they processed an 1000$ payment for a so-called 10 year anti-virus protection plan. I found out it was a scam a day later. Wish I had known sooner or had thought sooner to google the company but I arrived midway through the call and had no idea my mother wasn’t talking to a reputable company. Learn from my mistake. Do NOT trust this company at all. It’s one thing to run a scam service but to run a scam service during a pandemic and economic hardship just makes this all the more disgusting. I am currently in the process of disputing the payment with my bank after they REFUSED to refund me. Probably going to get the FTC involved.

A family friend (older couple) told me today that his laptop was hacked and received a message to call a number pretending to be working with MS. He was offered 3 years contract which he subscribed to. After my friend guy pretended to be cleaning his laptop for the virus etc. He ended paying about $380.

Same thing happened as described above with pop-up ERROR message. They would only take e-check. I put in a stop payment request, hopefully in time. 4/21/2020.

Did the same thing to my parents, hacked into computer...it got a bunch slower...and then "can fix it" for only $350 when name brand Malware & Virus software runs much cheaper than that (Norton's most expensive package that includes everything from Malware to Antivirus to Identity Protection to a large amount of cloud storage is only $100).

Got a popup on my windows laptop with a message saying ERROR with a number, and that my computer was in danger of being frozen/locked. I called phone number on the pop up 855-283-7122.

The first thing they said was my computer was in danger and it could be very bad for me. He gave me files to download and gained access to my computer without my permission. We were on the phone for almost 2 hours and he was repeating things over and over to keep me on the line.

He told me he had to upload files and it would take about an hour to do and he would call me back. When he called me back he called from a different number called id: Keith Field 501-422-0017, he said he was all set and asked for payment. He preffered e-check and I supplied my bank routing and account number, and one check number.

Once that was complete he said if I have any questions or concerns to contact a different phone number Archon Shield Support 888-382-1856.

When I told my family about the incident they feared I had been scammed, so I immediately called my bank to freeze my account. As of now no funds have been taken from my account.

They have been calling me back 5-6 times a day for the last day or two.
