ATT and Direct TV Reports & Reviews (1)

- Walnut Grove, MO, USA

I received many robo calls in the prior months which went to voice mail because I was working at the time. On June 30, 2021 at 1:33 pm, I received a call from **************. The man claimed to be an AT&T representative and offered me 50% off of my Direct TV service if I paid 6 months in advance using eBay gift cards. The promotion included free movie channels (Epix). He had me turn on my tv and wait for the new channels to download. The new channels appeared on my tv so I was convinced it was really AT& T. I explained to him that my account had gone in arrears. He was able to tell me exactly the amount I owed and told me the company would waive the charges and if I paid with the eBay cards, I would receive a $75 Visa card via Fed-ex the next day. I later received a text telling me to pay $600 to ensure the deal. That was not the amount I was told so I called the number stated on the text and a woman said she would fix it. I then received a similar email with the agreed amount of $360. I then went to Dollar General, bought the eBay gift cards, called the number stated on the text and “paid for the future service months”. When finished, the woman asked if I wanted to save money on my cell phone bill. She said eBay was running the same promotion with many mobile phone companies. She then connected me to that department. A man answered and presented me with 2 offers, both of them being 50% off phone service, and one being for one year at $300 and the other being for 5 years along with a free phone for $600. I asked him if I could think about it and call him back. He said yes and that his name was Brandon ***** and that I could ask for him. Since the woman was able to transfer me to Verizon, I felt something was wrong. So I searched the internet and found information regarding this scam. I then filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and then called eBay customer service. The employee verified that the card fir $160. Had already been used so that money was lost but the $200 dollar gift card had not been used yet and that if I purchased something using the card, the card then would be exclusive to my account. So I quickly made a purchase using that card. I then called eBay again and made sure the transaction had gone through and the card would be exclusive for only my use. The $160 dollar card was used on June 30 between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm central time. The card number they used was

*** *** *** ****. Ebay has an account of this transaction but was unable to tell me anything because of privacy laws.
