This guy is trying to pull the Vehicle history check on me. Too funny

I had a car for sale on Craigslist. He asked for a VIN # report on it and gave me a link to a place to get one. I paid 22.95 for it. Then he quit contact as soon as I purchased it. I feel so stupid.

I posted a car for sale and received a text message asking for a car history. They asked for a specific report and sent me a link to a service. I fell for the scam and paid $22.95 for a vehicle report. I later found out that this is a common scam and have not heard back from this individual.

I posted a motorcycle online. I was contacted by text by a person who said they wanted to buy it, but needed a vehicle history report. They offered a link as an option. I purchased the report and found the email provided was fake. The person stopped all contact.

Craigslist scammer...presenting himself via text as a legitimate buyer. He asked me to provide a VIN report and offered a link to use. After I paid for the report, he completely disappeared and went silent. If I hadn't been in such a hurry, I'd have thought twice and checked it out.

If you are selling a vehicle through craigslist be advised that a person will call or text you to tell you they need car history and they will tell you use this website autofact.com which is not legit.

Phoshing for a vin report via Craigslist

- Eagle River, AK, USA

Contacted by this person who claimed they were interested in buying my vehicle posted on Craigslist. They wanted a vehicle report first and suggested this site. I paid for the report and then figured out that their email was fake and they never responded after that.

This scammer responds to your ads on craigslist. He says he is interested in the product and wants to buy it quick. Then he says he wants to see a certain report on the car and directs you to autofactsreport.com. This site claims to run a vehicle information report and asks for your credit card. When the scammer is asked if a Carfax report is ok (this is a legitimate service) he does not answer.
