Called stating that we owed $6000.00 in back taxes and that today was the last day to pay without going to Jail, asked how much we could pay today and when we said nothing they hung up. They had stated that letters were sent to an old address. When we tried to reverse look up the number that we received the call from it popped as an IRS scam it was a cell phone number from Washington, DC

I received a very disturbing call from 646-394-9002- below are details that I have posted on every available site that I can:

This was a very effective scam in attempting to scare people (me!) into thinking that they are IRS Officers collecting debt and threatening significant jail-time should payment not be made within 25minutes and that police officers would be heading to my home immediately to make an arrest should payment be unable to be completed. I spoke to an "Officer Shawn Griffin" and he also gave me his "Officer Number" as well as a case # for the IRS lawsuit that would be pending if I didnt make immediate payment. He also tried to have me provide bank account info so that they could have a loan company make a deposit into my account in order to remit payment aginst the farcicle IRS debt.

These are horrible people doing horrible things to good people and they need to be taken away for a long, long time. How do we stop this criminal activity? I do not know but I did report it to my local Police who could only say that the IRS does not solicit phone calls to retrieve debts; they do this all through the mail system.

BE AWARE! BE CAREFUL! DO NOT PROVIDE THEM WITH ANY INFORMATION!

Caller: IRS

Call Type: Debt collector

At 7:48am I received a missed call and a voice mail. The voice mail was automated and incomplete but said to call the number back. At 7:58am I returned the call. The woman spoke very broken English, did not identify herself, had a very strong middle east accent, were obviously in a large call center. They called me concerning my mother. Identified my mother's name and address and informed me that she was being sued by the IRS for unpaid taxes. They asked if they could discuss the situation with me. I asked to speak with someone who could speak better English so that I could understand and the woman hung up the phone.

At 8:01am I called back and received the same greeting with no identification of employee, just that they were the IRS. I immediately googled IRS lawsuit phone call and realized it was a scam. After she confirmed my mother’s address and name she asked if she could discuss the situation with me. I told her that she wouldn’t get any information from me because this was a scam and she immediately hung up.

I received a phone call on my cell phone from someone claiming to be an IRS agent (they did give me a name, badge #, case ID # and Arrest warrant #). They claimed I owed back taxes from 2010-2014 and told me my only options were to settle it over the phone now, or fight it in court. They insisted that I leave my home and go to the bank to transfer money while on the call. They became impatient when I stalled and asked for them to send information in writing. They claimed that if I didn't settle the call, then I would be arrested.

Received a phone message from 59-978-0076 saying I am being sued by the IRS, blah, blah blah... I tried to go on-line to check the number, but found nothing. So I thought I'd report it to the BBB. In doing so I see I'm not the only person to have received this type of scam call. I did not call them back. I did not want to run the risk of any further scam action. I did however change all my passwords for charge accounts, bank etc..
