Identified as Direct TV stating receiver needed upgraded. To pay processing fee they wanted $250. When asked why our account wasn't to be billed, they said they couldn't give our account a special monthly rebate unless done this way.

We did receive new receiver. They called again for money.

Called Direct TV directly, very nicely they explained this scam.

In February of 2022, my 80 year old mother got a new direct TV box and they called and had me set it up and then said it was a one time charge of 249.95 that we had to pay over the phone. She doesn't have a credit or debit card so I used mine. On August 24, 2022, she received another phone call and they performed an upgrade and the charge would be $199 (which they talked my daughter through) but she would receive $30 off her bill each month. They already had my card number but needed the cvv number. I wasn't available to give it so they left a phone number. They have phoned her every day since. She decided to call direct TV who told her it was a scam, they would never take payment over the phone. The charge on my bank statement (from February)appears as Dtv 8884440390. We did not pay them this time.

They are telling you that Direct TV has out-dated software in the boxes, and your tv will stop working in 5 to 10 days and they will send the new boxes out to you. You don't have to pay anything for these boxes to be installed. You only have to pay a one-fee of $3 for each box. I thought because I was having some trouble at times with the picture freezing on my tv that it may have been a true, so I said ok, maybe so. They had alot of my information about my account like my address, the amount of boxes I had, the approximate time that I had my service, even approximate amount of my bill so I thought I was legitimate. A couple a days later he called back insistent that I had received the package that he had sent, but I had not. He told me that the package was at my door I should look around my porch and garage, while I was outside telling him that I don't have a garage and it wasn't on my porch my neighbor bought a package to me with her address on it but my name. UPS had delivered the package, with my name on it, but down the street, it had the wrong address on it, I think on purpose. They instructed me not to open the package until the tech come out to install the boxes (3 weeks later). I opened the box the next day and it was an IPhone. I never told them that I had opened the phone the next evening when they called telling me that the next week I'll be getting a return label because they had sent the wrong boxes and that they would be crediting my account, but I never told them that I knew that I knew it was a phone, and I had reported that my card had been compromised. Then I started asking him questions like how much he was going to be crediting my account and his name and that's when he was giving me all different answers than before. The only way I know the amount of the phone was because I called the credit card company, and I had just previously payed my bill and my available balance should have been more that it was.

I've been receiving calls from numerous phone numbers for the last 2 months. They always say they're calling from Direct TV. I've asked them to stop calling me numerous times. They call at all hours of the day, all days of the week. They always use a foreign accent. Lately they've been as nasty as telling me "I want to [censored] you" before hanging up the phone. I almost feel the need to change my number. I'm tired of being harassed.

Offered half price Direct tv for a year from e bay because of the pandemic. I was told to go to Wallgreens and get $600 worth of e bay gift certificates and call the number of billing for direct tv. The number they had given me . They answered direct tv. About an hour or two later I get a text saying they no longer accept Wallgreens cards. I called the last number I had and they wanted me to buy more cards to get my money back !!! No way !!! I figured I was scammed then, so I just left it go. Today, I get a voicemail to get the same Direct tv scam. I will include today’s voicemail. I also have all the phone numbers from the 28th of last month. Thank you …

Call from "direct TV" offers 50 % discount on current plan. ABOVE NUMBER and another at 254 273 4161. After offer, person wanted down payment of several hundred dollars as a one time payment, then no billing for direct TV for several months, and then a 36 month contract at half of current price. They wanted login to current plan. Then I was told after I agreed to new plan that I would have to receive cards that I would use as purchase in stores they listed. I said no thanks to these debit type cards. They said my service was changed through direct TV and I could not retract. Spoke to 4 higher ups and they refused to undo the "deal." We called ATT and reported the scam and they left my service unchanged. Payment was not processed yet thankfully.

I received a phone call identifying themselves as from DirecTV asking "Do you have your tv on; you need to do an update with your software". I was told this process would improve the picture and be a savings for my monthly charges. I asked a lot of questions and they were very vague about their answers, all of them. He had such a strong accent but gave me a an American name. It sounded like a call center environment in the background. I asked them to then mail information to me if they really had something special going on because he was so very hard to understand. I finally asked if I could speak with a supervisor so that I knew what he really wanted to do and if it truly was something that needed done because of his urgency. I starting thinking about all the scams going on everywhere and I knew about never turning on your computer so that a scammer could interfere with your information and plant corruption so I declined from turning on the the television for fear of the software being damaged. As he continued to persist, I just hung up on him. Please beware.

I get a phone call almost every day which I let go to voice mail because I don't recognize the number. The recorded message claims that I qualify for a 50% discount on my Direct TV, and asks me to call them back. I try to block the numbers they are calling from, but there is a new number every time. Direct TV does not call offering discounts, so don't fall for it! I don't know how to make it stop; wish I did.

I was told that they were from DirecTV and offering a 50% off promotion but they wanted me to pay the first 6 months and when I told them I did not have that much money the gentleman on the other end says oh so you're too poor to pay the amount that we asked

Business called with an offer to drop monthly charge on DTV bill, but wanted 320 upfront and then the bill will drop to $80/mo, consume just had to pay three months upfront, they requested the payment in ebay gift cards. Once the consumer would send them the gift card numbers, they would call him back again with a story of how their internet went down and he needed to send another card, and once their system was back up they would refund the extra payments. This happened a few times, then they requested 800 consumer refused. Consumer lost a total of $1760 through the 'promotion'.

I had a phone call this afternoon about reducing my Direct TV monthly bill if I would purchase 2 $200 Ebay cards and use them to pay the next 4 months of Direct TV service. Then I could use my credit card to pay the monthly bills for the next 20 months. It was a savings of $99 dollars a month but sounds too good to be true. I could go to Dollar General or HEB to purchase the cards.

offered to reduce monthly cost of Direct TV by paying $300 with an apple gift card

- Williston, SC, USA

Caller claimed to be from ATT/Direct TV.. they said that my receiver had to be upgraded. Asked for receiver ID#, then passed me on to a supervisor, who told me I would get a $30 discount on my bill. then passed me onto another supervisor who said I needed to send a check for $249.43 today to seal the deal, and I would get the money refunded after 3 months. This fellow gave me his name as "Daniel" with phone # of1-917-908-9950, ext.ID-4234. I didn't agree to anything and did not send any money. I called ATT/Direct TV and they said it had to be a scam. "Daniel" called back twice quickly. The second time I picked up the phone and told him i called to verify with ATT and it sounded like a scam. He hung up and never called back.

I have already been through this scam once and lost $300.00 in the exact way. They called me today from 8776790222 introducing themselves with an extremely strong accent as working for Direct TV. They tell you they are going to cut your bill in half for the next two years and all you need to do is send them money "through a bank" to get this offer.

I knew immediately it was some kind of scam due to all the loud voices in the background. Direct TV NEVER has that type of rudness due to making it hard to hear. I did NOT fall for that scam again but I hate it that I know others will,

Thank you for your help.

The people call identifying them selves as employees of Direct TV. They say you have been selected to participate in a promotional deal to cut you bill by 50% for 3 years if you purchase the product for a 10 month advance payment (in our case it was $430.00). You had to purchase Ebay gift cards from a merchant (several were listed, we bought them from Walgreens). They ask for the Direct TV account number(which I did not know) but that did not slow them down. You give them the redemption codes. They also offer a $100.00 Visa gift card in the deal. A day later they sent a Text saying that Walgreens(or who ever you bought the cards from) and Ebay are having issues and could not process the cards. They said that they would send me the $430.00 refund if I went to another vendor and purchase it again. The numbers all have Direct TV logo and answering information. The two guys I talked to were Jake and Walter (Very thick accents). The numbers are as follows:

1-855-270-5242

1-855-629-9956

Called to offer me 50% off and a free upgrade, the first thing they asked for was my passcode, I refused to give it as they called me. I searched the number and google gives it as a pest control service. I called the number and got straight through to a human no ATT sounds or press numbers for options and again the person asked for my account passcode.

I called Direct TV and they are currently not offering existing customers any promotions especially 50% off

I had received a call that I did not answer. I checked my voice mail and it was a promotional offer from AT&T and Direct TV. I called the number back and it actually went through an AT&T menu. I had a conversation with an agent, Nathan, who informed me of the promotion. He knew my account details. Since the call went through (or seemed to go through) an actual AT&T menu, it seemed legitimate. After accepting the promotion, I was informed they were teaming with Ebay to be able to promote the special and must be made with an Ebay prepaid card. Yes, that should have been a red flag. Do not fall for it!!! They get your pin code, call AT&T and upgrade your service while you are on hold paying. It appears legitimate because the movie channels show up.

- Keller, TX, USA

I got a call trying to offer a cable promotion if I paid six months in advance. But you had to get a prepaid Ebay card. And they said my bill would only be $45 for the next 3 months. I then got a bill from direct tv who then confirmed there is no such promotion and this was a scam

- Martinsburg, WV, USA

Received several calls claiming to be direct TV with offer for half off monthly bills. In return they asked me to pay 3months of bill in advance by paying them in eBay cards. They knew my name but asked for my personal code, monthly bill amount, and other personal information. When you call them back it sounds very similar to actually calling direct tv with option menu and everything. I had a feeling it was a scam and called real direct tv to verify. After that, I called to hear what they were trying to pull. The first guy cussed me out so I continued to lead them on. Second guy played along while I read incorrect numbers until he demanded I send the picture of the cards to [email protected].

He called me back to back constantly to see if I sent it yet. I blocked the number, but have received text message as well from 549-00.
