Robo call stating that my power would be shut off. I didn't listen to the entire message and hung up.

- Glen Allen, VA, USA

Voicemail said my electricity would be cut off for non-payment and to call 866-466-0950 to avoid disconnection.

- Norfolk, VA, USA

An automated message left a voicemail pretending to be Dominion Energy. They said that my power would be disconnected today due to non-payment and requested that I transfer to the billing department (by pressing 2 in a voicemail) to make a payment now or call back the number listed above.

Dominion power called and told me I was late on the bills and they are going to shut down the service today and I couldn't pay over the phone with my credit card according to them technician is already on the way and only way to stop this is pay by prepaid card. I was driving and near Walmart so I went in there to purchase prepaid master card amount of $191.33. He stayed on the phone whole time and I gave him card information and I thought it will be over then he said they are installing the new meter and it will cost $495. I told him I never got notice and he said letter was sent out on September and October and for my inconvenience my electric bill will be 10% discount for next three months.

I almost bought it and was going to purchase more prepaid card then I realized something wasn't right so I called the dominion power and per automated billing machine I owed them $0. Then I finally realized it was a scammed and immediately called the walmart money card number and asked them for refund in the mean time he kept calling at least 6 ,7 times. I hope I get the money back and this happens to no one.

- Colonial Heights, VA, USA

I got a call from a person claiming to be a Dominion Power representative stating that my meter was tampered with. So my electricity would be disconnected within the hour in order to replace the meter. I was given a toll free number to call & a claim #. When I called the number back I was told I should have received a notice that my electricity was being cut off. And that electricity would be cut off within the hour. In order to keep it on I would need to make a $500 deposit to upgrade the meter.

- Midlothian, VA, USA

This number called using a recording stating that our business power would be turned off in exactly an hour if payment was not made. They called back 30 minutes later using a recording stating we had only 30 minutes. They left a phone number to call back, so I did (just to see how good they were, as I knew this was a scam). The recording was word-for-word the recording that the real Dominion Energy call center uses. When I did get a person on the phone, I went through the motions to see how far they would take it. Eventually I was told to go buy a money card from CVS and call them back with the card reference number. At this point I shared a few choice words with the scammer and told him I was reporting them to the police and the call was disconnected.
