I was contacted by this company Energetic Squad LLC that claimed they had helped with my Canon printer years ago. They claimed that I was connected to their server and that an alert had come up indicating that I had suspicious activity going on with my computer or IP address. They wanted to let me know that they needed to block the possible hackers. He asked if I made large deposits because that is perhaps why there is so much activity. He said it had to be fixed quickly to avoid possible access to my personal information and or bank accounts. They said to add the security fix it would also include a lifetime of tech support. The service would be $1,800 if I were going to use Amex the charge would be an additional $200.00. They would take half that day and the remaining in two weeks. Considering my friend of a friend had just had her information hacked and money taken from her bank account I was not focused on a possible scam? I had spoken to them years back right? Well, I did what you should never do...let them view my screen while I was watching as they loaded on free software to correct a fix what was supposed to be dangerous... They even showed me the malware as I watched him move around on my desktop. He took half of the payment and then a few days later someone else called saying the same thing but regarding a different type of software needed and asked for another name other than mine. The caller ID said it was the same company. I asked to speak to the supervisor. He called me back. The supervisor came to the phone and he said disregard the call. He was speaking loudly saying I should never talk to someone "unless they give you the right purchase id number". The supervisor proceeded to say that that guy does not work here anymore. My question to him was then... how did he transfer me to you? That is when I began to realize that I may have been scammed. They have harassed me with phone calls at least 6-7 times a day, 4-5 days a week for the remaining $800.00. They have left strange voicemails to call them back or they will block my computer from the server. I went to the ScamPulse.com site and that is how I found out about another complaint from the same company. Thank goodness I thought to search the site. I have since realized now that it was not a Canon tech support calling. I have had to purchase legitimate software to remove the threats/free software they used on my computer.

My father was contacted and offered a computer support service. He signed up for the service and once they determined he was hooked they continued to contact him and requested that he send $5,000 for additional services, which he did. They then called back a couple of days later and requested another $5,000 and if he mailed the check that day, 8/2, then he would receive a check for $20,000 on August 7th by overnight mail. We contacted the number my father had and said that we were referred to this number for microsoft tech services and they asked who referred us and I refused to provide the name. They said that they could provide 3 years of service for $300 and wanted me to start inputing certain keys on my computer at which point I refused and said that this was a scam and they assured me that it was not. When I asked where they were located they said Redmond, WA which of course is the home office of Microsoft. The individual had a thick accent and I could hear other voices in the background. I continued to press for information and they hung up on me.

My husband called the same number the next day and asked for Peter, to whom my father said he had initially spoken, and was told that Peter had been running a scam from this business and had been let go three days ago. When this individual was pressed for what company it was he said it was Geek squad and they provide Microsoft support but that they had found that Peter was running a scam on the side from this business. He would not give us any information and wanted to know our father's name and we refused and ended the call.

We then did a search for Energetic Squad to which my father made the check payable and found the website. There are numerous spelling and grammatical errors on the site which were very apparent to my husband and I but not our 86 year old father. There was no answer but a couple minutes later we got a phone call back from a unrecognized number from someone with a heavy accent who said his name was Steve and that he was returning our call but would not tell us what he was calling about but wanted to know what we were calling about. When we pressed him he hung up.
