Fake journal advertisement Reports & Reviews (1)

Scammer contacted me via email claiming our ad in her journal publication needed revision. Ask us to check the current running ad for any updates or corrections. We checked it, made revisions and sent it back. She then sent me an invoice. I requested a copy of the publication and she me a link to an online version of the publication. Seemed legit at the time. I paid. A couple months later, I received another invoice, which I thought was strange because when we put ads in magazines or published journals we typically pay annually. She specified that I would have to pay bi-annually. Nine months went by and I received an apology email that I had not been billed for all of my invoices over the past several months. Because of their mistake, I could take my time making the payments over the next several months. I was sent 4 past due invoices. Very confused I questioned the quarterly billing when I was told bi-annual billing. They came back and said I am billed per issue of the publication and they have 4 issues annually. I started digging and found that this company belongs to a woman in a broken down warehouse who started her company just a couple of months prior to contacting me. We had never had an ad in her magazine. The online copy of the magazine was a fake she created.
