I found a Facebook post mentioning a research assistant opportunity at my college. The scammer went under the name of Chuck Anderson who is a real professor at my college and said I could make good money remotely. I completed a task that seemed semi-realistic to the job and then they had me cash a check and then they had me purchase gift cards with the money from the check to complete their “subsequent tasks.” Every morning I would receive a text that said “Good morning Luke, trust you had a wonderful nights rest. I thought it was odd but I tried to rationalize it and thought it was the professor being a little weird. Then, I had myself wondering when I would start actually doing research work for them and that’s when I realized it might be too good to be true. So I found this page and realized it was a scam. I’m not sure if I have lost any money yet but I did cash in the check and exchange it for gift cards so I will have to see. In total, I gave them my resume which contained my old home address, my current address, email, and phone number.
