Favorite Chef Reports & Reviews (3)

Here’s my experience. My daughter entered the contest. I opted for the “hero” vote that cost a minimum of $10. Afterwards I saw a news article online about the contest.
I requested a refund. Favchef.com refused. My daughter withdrew from the competition. Favchef.com still refused to issue a refund. The details about paid voting were not prominently displayed on the voting page of the website.
I learned later that Bon Appetit is not associated with the contest. The sponsor of the contest is CrowVote, LLC, which is owned by Darrin Austin (who also owns Jetset Magazine). He intends to have a two-page ad in Bon Appetit Magazine to announce the declared winner.
25% of the proceeds from the paid votes is earmarked for Feeding America. Darrin Austin will retain the remainder. He will likely take a tax deduction for the contributions submitted by the voters and retain the remaining 75%.
He has another competition online known as Yoga Warriors.
Feeding America reports on their website that more than 25,000 contestants are involved in the competition.
How much will Darrin Austin garner from this scheme? Unfortunately he already got my $10.

It is a scam and Bon Appetit is not an official sponsor or even endorsing it, but they claim that if you win you will have a two page feature in the magazine. You can pay for votes.
