Definitely was a scam, have already been called by this number before because I had flagged it as spam. The lady on the voicemail said her name was Betty Thompson which happens to pop up as a usual alias for identity theft scammers. I know this is a scam, because no government student loan agency or private agency will contact you across the phone. If they do contact you it would be through your messages for the loan payment platforms website. I've even received "snail" mail trying to convince me to consolidate my loans and that it's my last chance to contact them. I've been getting at least three of those "last chance" spam letters a year for around 5yrs now. The mail usually seems convincing, but it's just a scare tactic as is the voicemail messages that are left. But be sure to not give out any personal/financial info. Take a moment to search to see if they are whom they claim to be, we have the internet at our disposal.

Federal Assistance calls you regarding repayment and consolidation of your student loans, and offers to look at your account to see how much better of a payment they can provide. With the provision of your email, Federal Assistance agents under the name Betty Thomas or Betty Thompson or Eli Mean, then get access to your existing student loan servicer to "look over your file" - The danger however, I realized too late is that provides them access to your SS#, Driver's license, birthdate, address on file etc - EVERYTHING needed for identity theft. They try to rush you to authorize them to contact your loan service provider - and thus you have to sign docs authorizing them to make contact. This is where you realize they are asking you to send pay stubs, contact your employer, and try to access your back account for automatic withdrawals (I immediately went to my bank, closed the entire account and associated cards after transferring the balances to a safe account. Then I went online to my present student loan service and changed the access email and passwords, so that Federal Assistance can't access my info again. I also went online to ScamAdvisor.com to check the company after finding the address was an executive suite type set-up. The print out shows the web site is new and business registered to Charlene Tanner, not Betty Thompson. Please be careful - Folks are encumbered with student debt- and it's tempting to grasp at other help, until that unsettled feeling sinks in that you've just been scammed!

this is a government financial aid company that is actually third-party that is charging fees to help you with your repayment loan when in fact your own loan company through the federal government will do it for free. Don't fall for it like I did!
