The recipient received a text message offering the recipient $400 if they want to become as a mystery shopper. A link was provided to apply using WIX website. The page also repeatedly explained how a mystery shopper can earn money shopping at certain stores the scammer partner with. If interested, in the end of the webpage, the “Apply here” is available for recipient to fill out; Name, address, email, and phone number. After the registration, the recipient waited a week and received a check and a piece of paper asking the recipient to deposit the check and to purchase 3 gift card of $500, totaling $1,500. After the purchases are complete, the scammer asked for the gift cards to be photographed, emailed, and texted, which are provided on the paper received with the check.
