Fisher Don Construction LTD Reports & Reviews (1)

On 09-22-16 this company sent me an email stating that they received my resume in response to our recent job posting on ZipRecruiter for the position of an ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT. This is a website I had used recently during my job search (I have all pdf attachments of the job description and offer sent to me by the "human resource manager). After accepting the potential opportunity and showing my interest; another email was sent on 09-23-16 asking me to complete an assessment and answer some interview questions: the email stated: "In order to make the next evaluation process more conducive, effective and stress free while at the same time giving you room to succinctly express yourself, we resolved to send the interview questions. Note however, that the evaluation of your responses would be based on the following: (Promptness - HR's ability to foresee your career goals in the organizational objective with regards to the new outlet - Writing skills - Others." I was then asked to answer the following interview questions in 50 words or less). “1) Why do you want this position? 2) Asides from income, what do you think you could gain if you are successful at the end of this evaluation process? 3) What motivates you or drives you towards excellence? 4) What are your long and short term goals? 5) What strength do you bring to this job that other candidates might not?” The answers to the above questions must be sent in on or before 05.00 PM Eastern Time (ET) September 26th, 2016. After completing this request, I returned a "word" document with all the requested information on 09-24-16. The next email was sent to me on 09-24-16 stating: "Thank you for sending your answers .Please allow till the end of business day on Tuesday the 27th of September for further update." On 09-28-16 another email was sent to me requesting further information: "A quick one - if you are offered the position, how soon are you available to start? Also, kindly send one or two references." I responded the same day with the following information "My availability is determent on when the facilities for my area will be available. I understand from our previous correspondence that the satellite office for Jacksonville, FL will not be up and running for 6-weeks. All I ask is that the company allow me a 2-weeks’ notice with my current employer. Furthermore, an offer letter for the acceptance of the position is requested prior to submitting a 2-weeks’ notice to my current employer.” I received the next email on 10-03-2016 with a PDF attachment stating: “It is my pleasure to inform you that you have been selected to become the Administrative Assistant for our new outlet.” The PDF included a complete offer letter – to include salary and further instruction to start my employment. The email stated: Again thank you for your interest in working with our esteemed organization. After due consideration amidst over 15 applicants, please find attached and congratulations. However you do have the option to accept or decline the offer.” I accepted the offer on 10-03-16 with the following email: “It is with pleasure to accept the offer as the Administrative Assistant for Fisher Don Construction. I believe I will be a valuable asset to the company. If at all possible, I would like to make phone contact to ask a few questions pertaining to the upcoming Orientation and Training commencing on the 25th of October 2016.” I was first sent another email on 10-04-16 which stated: “Thank you for confirming the requested information and we are delighted to have you on our team.” The same day, later that afternoon, the Human Resource Manager Kino McCoy made contact by phone number (902) 701-1042 on 10-04-16 stating that I would be receiving a check in the mail in order to buy the necessary supplies for the new office in Jacksonville. He also stated that I would be meeting with a realtor, who will be showing me the property within this week. The person on the phone had an extremely strong accent (sounded Hattian). This information was also included in the offer letter that stated: “A laptop will be provided to create efficiency in your duties. A disc containing the company’s platform (software) will be mailed to you after one week. A cheque will be sent to you to coordinate some office purchases such as stationery, and secure accommodation (hotel) for me and other delegates attending the official opening of the new outlet. These tasks would be part of your assessment in finalizing your employment with us after three months. You will be required to make monthly report of tasks assigned to you and your first would be 31st of October 2016.” It definitely seemed a little fishy, so I did some research. I used google maps to locate the address and the building had the company logo on the side of the building. I also researched the BBB and Fisher Don Construction had an A+ in its review. In addition, I reviewed the website, which states that a Kino McCoy is the Human Resource Manager. It appeared to be a legit opportunity. So I proceeded with communication. Since I am adamant about a paper trail, I saved every email, every phone message and contact, every piece of paper that reflected this specified job opportunity. On 10-04-16, I responded with an email to Mr. McCoy stating: “It was a pleasure speaking with you today. I look forward to working with you and the company in the future. Thank you for the update, I will keep an eye out for the tracking information.” On 10-05-16 at 08:16 AM, I received another email from Mr. McCoy stating: “The property manager contacted me yesterday and proposed 19th Oct. 2016 to meet up with you. He will be in touch to discuss meet up location. Here is the tracking number of the cheque that was mailed out to you 1Z2XF3136603391646. You can track it on www.ups.com do ensure you are home to sign for it. A scanned or clear picture of the deposit receipt is required for the account department to upload their book. Do call me however before making the deposit or send me an email so I can call you to give directives. Promptness is paramount. The IT department are still busy with some installations on the laptop and I will notify you and send you the tracking number as soon as they are done and mailed out. Do send an email confirming your availability and also that you received this tracking number.” I responded via email to Mr. McCoy on 10-05-16 at 8:56 AM stating: “The proposed date of October 19th sounds fine; just let me know the further details. I will reference the tracking number provided and follow up. The scheduled delivery date is today Wednesday, 10/05/2016, however, I will be at my current workplace until 1600 PM. However, if at all possible, I can schedule the delivery for late this afternoon, in which I will be available for pick up. Nonetheless, once this is received, what business account do I deposit this into? Please let me know the process from here on out.” On 10-05-16 at 12:27 PM I received a call from Mr. McCoy requesting to confirm that I received the check that was sent to me for the purpose of business production. Later that afternoon, when I returned home, there as a UPS envelope with a check in the amount of $4K (The check is at my home residence in a secure location). This check was a “legit” VyStar Money Gram check written out to me. However, he called me again from the (902) 701-1042, and stated that I would need to deposit this check into my personal account and just to keep receipts. I advised Mr. McCoy that I did not feel comfortable with depositing this check into my personal account and requested that he provide me with a business account to deposit the check. He stated that he would get that information with the accounting department and get back to me. I made contact with Mr. McCoy on the phone number provided in the email of +1 902-701-4053 Ext 3 on 10-06-16 (which appeared to be disconnected). It is now 10-17-2016 and I have not heard from Mr. McCoy or any representative with the company. I sent an email on 10-11-16 at 10:44 AM stating: “It has been nearly a week since I have heard from you. The last we spoke you were in the process of getting me an account number to deposit your funds into. This is intended to start up the office in Jacksonville Florida. I have also not heard anything from any Realtors. I have already put in my two weeks’ notice, and will be without a job as of Monday next week. Please let me know what we need to do to continue this process. I have not heard anything from this organization. I have maintained ALL emails, communication, and the check that was sent to me for evidence.
