I signed up with this program for free phone service to my knowledge rivals the California lifeline program. In order to use the free service I was required to deposits $20 on my account to cover any over usage . The money was deposits May 08, 2018. Since that time I 've mainly use this phone as a back-up to my paid Metro PCS services, and I never used this phone at all. This week I went to check my data usage and to make sure my $20 credit was still intact , to only find that it is very elusive and no where to be found. Not on the application and not on the websites anywhere. Fast forward two days later and I find that they've charged me a $15 subscription fee. I have already canceled my service with them and am planning to fight these charges with my banking institution. I am now reporting these horrid people with their misleading and deceptive practices. Thank you for your help in notifying others of this misaligned people

FreedomPop have a scam that pretends to be free (or $0.01c) to attract low income users to a bait-and-switch service

You are loaded onto their system with your credit card details and you are automatically sent a SIM card and given access to a port-hole.....which many people will not bother to check until they have been scammed.

I checked mine and to my surprise, it showed I had an upcoming $90+ bill upcoming, I would know the exact amount but it has already changed to $113.87 due in a month; and it is due on April fools day

........amazing for a FREE SIM (that does not work) on a $71.94 per 6-month plan, isn't it?

My SIM card arrived and I tried it in two Android phones and a unlocked iPhone but the sim card is not able to make or receive calls. I will add here, I was in corporate sales for Vodafone and have an IT company, I know what I am doing, that's why I decided to test this scam.

So, their customer service line is a pay for service (over $14 for 6 months) and I can see they have already illegally charged me for this despite calling from my non-Freedompop phone to avoid charges........even though the menu goes around in circles and there is no one to talk to about getting service on your SIM which is supposed to be active......and this is the scam.....how do I make this new SIM work when the on line support is designed to be useless and when there is no options on the portal to authorise? You search for their phone number of course and bla bla bla, no help, a menu system which tries to trap you into paying for the same automated call.

I will let my credit card company del with the rest but this is a clear and blatant SCAM that has been running for years because scammers can do what they like in the US and UK; our laws exist to protect scamming business, not the consumer and this is a clear example of that.

My advice is, cancel the service by contacting your credit card company as FreedomPop will trap you into having a balance. Downgrade immediately by going https://my.freedompop.com/ THEN select the plan on the left which you should be on, even though they will show that they are going to charge you over $90 for that $70+ plan, and select DOWNGRADE.

You will be given a warning that you must have a minimum balance to downgrade.....do it anyway as you have no choice since there is no customer service to call.

CALL YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY IMMEDIATELY and inform them, especially if you have already been charged.

Even though the legal system is not here to help you, Visa and other Card Companies can blacklist these [censored] and in that way, we do part of the job the FBI should be doing for us but will not.

This is why Trade Genius Academy and GreenDot Card can get away with their fraud and Deception and nothing ever happens........because the law is there to make sure Walmart are protected against a child stealing a candy bar; not for you unless you get murdered.

I am not poor like most of their victims, I am just testing this scam as I suspected it was a honeypot scam and my very qualified opinion shows that is exactly that,....... so I am not going to totally close the FreedomPop account yet so I can see if this scam has any other hidden angles like before.

Please feel free to contact both the FBI and IC3 who should help you, but will not do a single thing once you submit your complaint as I found out when I called the Denver office to check after making complaints and spoke to a lazy woman who wanted to interrupt me so she could try and claim I interrupted her; so she had an excuse to hang up on me. Please use these and post your doing so, so that these is baga data evidence that starts to show how many complaints are made so they cannot deny it, and to show how little action is taken so they are shamed into improving and doing at least some of their job.

Maybe they are under-funded, but ignoring their ineptitude will not solve this.
