Owner of this company was walking around the neighborhood asking for work trimming trees. I hired him to cut down a tree near my driveway. The company only uses chain saws and a rope to remove trees. In the process of cutting the tree, a section of the tree fell on my driveway and cracked one of the driveway concrete slabs. I called the owner the day after the tree was cut, when I first noticed the cracked concrete, and he said he look at the damage the next day. However, he did not return. In addition, the contract he wrote up does not include a company name or address. Am disappointed with the damage to my concrete, but happy the tree is down. Will not recommend this company to anyone unless they use a legitimate contract and show proof of insurance and proof of workers' compensation coverage.

Man in his 50s or 60s rang my doorbell. Explained he was in the neighborhood trimming trees for neighbors and looking for other jobs. Quoted me 450 for the tree out back considering I wanted it trim anyways. I told him 350 and I can pay in cash if it gets done today. He had to talk to his son before making that decision. Came back and agreed for 1pm today. They never showed up. Numbers on his business card don't go through.

A man showed up at my front door offering tree service. He handed me a business card and told me what his family-owned business does and how, explaining that the business was his father's and now he and his son own it. I tell him to take a look at the four trees I have been considering removing. He comes back and quotes a price of $3000, and that he would accept check or cash (i offered a finance way, but he said that he didn't belong to the company I use). I explained that I would not have the cash for the project for several days as I was getting paid soon. He told me that complete payment right now was not a problem (we could work something out). Then he told me if I would commit to him doing the work today, he would remove all four trees for $2800 (a good price and comparable to other estimates I had gotten in the past), so I said that sounds good, but that I would need to see proof of insurance and bonding, which he presented a copy attached to his clipboard. It seemed legit to me (but I am no expert). He asked me how much I could provide up front and I told him $800 (I figured the cost of one tree and some cleanup... and it was a safe amount I could afford). He agreed and we signed a contract (no time frame for completion, etc. Just the amount and for job description). They showed up the next morning on time and removed one tree, plus de-branched a second one in fairly decent time). Seemed good, so far. After finishing that portion of the work, the cutter (the sone actually doing the work) came to the front door and explained that they would be back tomorrow to continue and that the entire job would take about three days total. He needed to empty his trailer and bring back his big equipment to clean up the larger limbs and stump pieces still laying around (they were stacked neatly). The son asked for $1200, but when I explained the agreement I made with his father the day before for $800 up front and that it was all I could afford right now, he seemed upset and proceeded to get into an argument with his dad out by the truck. Finally he returned and said that the $800 was fine. I told him that I would be righting him a check for the amount since I hadn't had a chance to get to the bank for cash and that his father told me that checks were okay! Then the son turned and told his father that he didn't have his ID with him to cash a check at the bank and the father asked me to drive up and get the cash. I agreed... Afterwards, I returned and paid them. The $800 I gave them is okay with me considering they cut down one and a half trees for it (that's actually less per tree than the original agreement the father and I made). But to this day they have not returned and the wood is still laying in my yard. Thank God I didn't give them more $$ up front, or I would been taken. They have never returned my calls (plus I had others call to try it too), I have never been able to find a business location, and searches come up empty for the name of the company (I noticed later that the business card had no address, no email, no website... just a phone number that also comes up empty on all searches, although it does have an answering recording, which means the phone is active). I will wait a little while longer to hire someone to finish what they started, but only long enough to make sure the company has completely abandoned the job and can not come back to sue me for breach. Be on the lookout. My situation with them was kinda wierd, but it could be a lot worse for someone that isn't as prepared. Frenchie's Tree Care is a fly-by-night business I am now certain, so I recommend you send them on their way in a hurry. A shame too, because they really seem to know what they are doing when you watch them cut down a tree. They could really make good money if they were honest... some things I just don't get.
