I GOT A VOICEMAIL TELLING ME THAT THEY WERE RENEWING A SERVICE CONTRACT AND WOULD CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD $300.00. I DON'T, AND NEVER HAD SUCH A CONTRACT. I WAS TO CALL THIS OTHER NUMBER TO CANCEL, BUT THE LADY WHO ANSWERED SAID THAT I HAD HER NAME AND NUMBER, BUT SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. I CALLED THE COMPANY AND SAID NO WAY WERE THEY TO CHARGE ME ANYTHING. HE WANTED ME TO GO TO MY COMPUTER, AND NO, I DIDN'T. POSSIBLE HACKER? I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY WOULD KNOW MY CREDIT CARD, AND I HAVE NOTIFIED MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY. NOTHING HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT YET.

The initial call was a recorded message saying that a $399.99 tech support payment had been made, but if I wanted to cancel this & get a refund to press 1. So I pressed 1 & got a live person with a Pakistani accent. He said that in order to get this refund I needed to allow him remote access to my computer. So I did. Then he said I had to log in to my credit union account, which I also did. Then, as we were talking a form appeared on my computer where I needed to fill in my name, phone number & the amount to be refunded. So I did that. Then he altered the amount to show that I had entered $3999.99& showed me my credit union web page showing that amount had been deposited into my checking account. This account had been overdrawn, & now I had almost 4 thousand in it, which he wanted back. I said since you have remote access you can take the excess out. He said no , my back can’t connect with your bank. He wanted a credit card #, which I wouldn’t give him. So he said I would need to go to Best Buy & buy 4 $500 gift cards, then tell him the # on each of them. That way he’d get $2000 & that would be enough to settle the matter. I said so I’ll end up with about $2000 to keep? He said yes. At this point I realized he was a scammer, told him so & hung up. He kept calling back for an hour. Finally leaving a text message saying “Sir we have lock your computer and bank account also We are going to file a case charge against you” When I checked with my credit union this morning they said no $4000 was ever deposited & taken out. I changed my password as they recommended.

I was viewing my email when a full screen pop-up came on saying I was exposed to the Zeus virus and my computer is shut down until I get it fixed. It also said that I would cause problems if I tried to close the page or shut down my computer. Since it had the name of my provider, ***, I took it more seriously than I thought/ I called the number given and was answered "Microsoft." I said I had a Mac and they transferred me to a "Certified Technician" with an Eastern Indian accent who went into my Terminal and pointed out that I had 247 "foreign visitors" listed. Then came the pitch that I expected from the first. He would "fix" my computer if I bought a plan - one year for $178 +, or 3 or 5 year plan. I said I didn't have that kind of money and he mentioned a "Senior Rate." I told him I didn't have even ten sents to spend. He then told me that I would be black-listed. I said, "so black list me. Now what?" We ended the call after I told him I did not appreciate the scam and I would report it. So, I guess I am black-listed, for what I don't know, and the scam goes on. I contacted *** and they transferred me to Norton that installed an anti-virus program on my computer free of charge as a member of ***.
