These ******* are trying to get you to give them money for a free pdf you can download on your government website. They use language, format, and dates to make it seem like you already owe them. You don’t. Screw the “LA Certificate Service”

Our business received a very official looking letter from this company, complete with a form number on the bottom, requesting $87.25 for a Certificate of Status. Someone not paying attention might actually send them a check for this when they could request it for much less from the Secretary of State.

I received a letter in the mail a few days after registering my business requesting my business be certified. For certification, I was instructed to send a check/money order in the amount of $87.25. The certificate received is fraudulent. When I called to question the validity of the invoice and ask if they were scamming people, I was informed that it was not a scam and I could request a refund after I received my certificate. The certificate could have been typed up by a kid....definitely a scam! Because I paid with a money order and it was already cashed, my bank said I could not dispute the item. I’m very upset that someone would take advantage of a small business owner with limited funds during this economic hardship.

I received a letter/Form stating that I had to pay $87.25 for a certificate of Status in order to show I was in good standings for my business.

This threw up a red flag for me because when I went to open a business bank account, the banker was able to pull this up on her computer and gave me a copy of it. Why would I have to pay for a copy if the banker had one for me?

I immediately pulled up where this has been happening with the exact amount listed to other people.

The certificate received is fraudulent. When I called to question the validity and ask for a refund, the man hung up the phone on me. Because I paid with a paper check and it was already cashed, my bank said I could not dispute the item.

Received a letter in the mail to submit $87.25 for a 2020 certificate of status request form. This document is included when you set up a business. Do not send money to them. thank you.

- Mandeville, LA, USA

I just opened my business with the state of Louisiana within the last 2 weeks. I then received a letter from LA Certificate Serviced that looked pretty "official" and as if they were trying to pass themselves as a government entity. In the letter they go on to request $87.25 for a "Certificate of Status", and that i must do so by (3 days from the letter arriving). I ALMOST wrote a check and sent it to them...... I havent ever set up a business before. I am going through so many new processes and filings and numbers and forms that I don't know what I am even doing half of the time. If it wasn't for the tiny tiny print hidden in the letter that read "This is not a government agency", I would have been duped.

- Lafayette, LA, USA

This company targets and contacts businesses (mostly newly acquired) by mail, congratulating them on registering their business with the state. The business then turns around and states that there's 1 more step to complete the registration process in order to receive a document called a "Louisiana Certificate of Status". The company stresses in the letter how "important" this document is, what it's used for, and what is shown on the document. Finally, it asks the business to confirm and complete the bottom portion of the form, and return with $87.25.

The color of the document is yellow/gold.

- New Orleans, LA, USA

I thought this was a necessary form and payment required by the Louisiana Secretary of State. The letter is very misleading and makes it seems like they are a government agency.
