Hi, My name is *** and I’m an owner of a new company, I just got a letter on the mail, please see attached, and after a small google research I found out that it’s a scam that goes back all the way to 2013 and counting.

They trying to scam company owners into send them checks under false pretenses that they are state agency, I hope that my email will find the right department and that they won't get away with that.

This scam is presumably sent to all new businesses that register in Florida, indicating that state and federal labor law require a particular "employment poster" to be posted in the workplace, and that fines of $17,000 per instance will result if the company does not order the poster within a few days.

The notice is sent as a "labor law compliance notice" and takes the form of a government-looking document and bill, with a "notice date" and a "due date" for payment of the required $84.00 document fee. There is a "document number" included as if it is an invoice, and in several places the document emphasizes the legal requirements that presumably can only be satisfied by purchasing the $84.00 poster.

The notice includes a disclaimer that it is not affiliated with the state of Florida only in micro print at the very bottom.

The overall implication of the "notice" is that the business must purchase this poster or risk non-compliance and punitive fines.

- Chapel Hill, NC, USA

A company called "Labor Compliance Service" (www.laborcomplianceservice.com) with an address listed as 3737 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 100, Raleigh, NC 27612 and email as [email protected] sent me what looks like an $84 invoice for State & Federal 2016 Employment Posters, saying these must be posted in my workplace. The document is called a "Labor Law Compliance Notice" even though in very small print at the bottom it says, "We are not affiliated with the State of North Carolina." The posters they purport to offer for this fee are available for free from the NC Department of Labor (www.nclabor.com/posters).
