Man knocked on my office door (had a British accent?) and said they were completing a paving job around the corner from my office. They had extra material and could pave the front of my office for 1/3 of the cost. They kept saying $3 per square ft, but couldn’t tell me how far that would go. He kept pushing. I said I can’t just say yes without knowing what the area is and how much it will all cost. Can you measure? He kept talking and eventually we agreed upon 6k. He was pointing around the area. I asked him what he would do when it comes to the wood border for the shrubs and he said they would just chip that out. When we agree upon 6k he leaves as if he has to check with someone. Next thing I know he is back with trucks and 1 dump truck and 4 workers. I am scrambling to get cars moved. They start dumping ‘stuff’ in the driveway and rolling it. A second guy with an accent shows up laughing and talking. Both are about 5’11 with dark hair and a bit of facial scruff. The second guy leaves and then calls me back to say he will be back to measure and get payment. At this point we are starting to question what they are putting in the driveway. It is not pavement/Ashphalt. The second guy (his business card says *** ********) comes back and says (he did not measure) the job will costs 21k. He also said it was the end of the day and he had to send the workers home. They would come back to finish tomorrow. I got very upset with him, swore a couple of times and said the other guy said 6k. He eventually called the second guy over who was sitting in his truck along the road. He didn’t argue much with me. I just told him he was lying. I left the guys standing in the driveway saying take it out because he said he would. My father was witness to all of this. They left without payment. I sent an email to the guy the next morning and cc’d my lawyer on it. I told him I wanted this crap taken out of my driveway. It appears they dumped old recycled ground up Ashphalt in my driveway. They left a big bump in the middle of my parking lot. I will have to pay someone to come and grade it. I posted about this on Social Media and a person reached out to me with an office around the corner. They had been scammed as well and paid them. A week or so later, I went to the address in Ottawa to see if there address was real. It was not. It was a UPS store and there was no box number for them. The staff said they do not get mail for them. Two weeks later I had an associate go to the address listed here with the better business bureau and it is a convention centre. Both fake addresses. If you message the number associated with the business, someone will answer but won’t tell you where they are.
