Joined a Facebook group called, “Shih Tzus for adoption.” One of several admins claimed to be a pet breeder in Riverside and posted a photo of his available pups. I liked the photo and add them to see more of the pups and get info. They then messaged me asking if I was interested in getting one and what gender I was looking for. They sent several pictures and asked where I was located and gave pricing details ($800 each for adoption). I agreed to get a pup and they demanded a portion of the sale price to be a down payment to prepare the contract and other things. I asked if they used Zelle, cash app, Venmo, or PayPal. They said no because it gave them issues, but that I could use gift cards. They told me I had to put the $400 on a Walmart gift card and send them photos of the front/back of the card with the receipt showing the amount. They then said once payment was made that they would be sending the contract and other info to my email, where it would have their info and I would sign. I never received the email. We had agreed that they would personally deliver the pup to me in the next 2 days. The night before the pup’s delivery I got a message stating that their mother died and that they wouldn’t be able to deliver personally, but that the pup would be delivered via a pet courier service in the morning. Believing them I said okay. The next morning, I received both a text and email from the “delivery company,” asking to confirm my identifiable information and home address. I did. I then got another text about a crate rental fee for the pup that was air conditioned that needed to be paid for by me. It was $550 to rent or $900 to keep once the pup arrived. I refused to pay it because I didn’t have enough and the delivery company demanded I come up with the money to complete the delivery. I again refused and pleaded with them to let me pick up the pup myself and they told me I wasn’t allowed to do that since it’s a delivery agency only and not a pick up agency. I asked the breeder for a refund and to keep the pup since I couldn’t afford the delivery and they stated I couldn’t get a refund because I wasn’t working with them, even though prior they said I would get a refund if the pup and my dog didn’t get along or if something came up. They then said they would “pay” for half of the rental crate fee and I would just need to put the other portion. Scrambling to get the money, I received a photo of the pup in the crate waiting to be delivered. I finally came up with the money for the fee and sent it using another gift card. The company texted me saying that I was $100 short and they couldn’t proceed with the delivery without it. I ended sending the money on a card again and they said they were on their way. The breeder and I had then agreed that I didn’t need to give the other $400, that they would accept $50 more and be done. I told the breeder that he would get the $50 when the pup was delivered and the company had stated to me that the rental fee was refundable and I would be getting it back in cash when they brought the pup. The breeder demanded the $50 repeatedly as did the really rude delivery company and they threatened to stop the delivery if I didn’t pay the breeder. Frustrated from negotiating all day back and forth, with no contract details, company details, delivery confirmation details, and yet still no pup, I gave up and didn’t send the $50. Once I stopped replying I didn’t receive any word from the company nor the breeder until the next day questioning me about the $50. I filed a police report, and reported the FB page, but nothing has been done yet. I even had spoke with a few members of the group FB page who had “purchased” pups from the breeder and they gave me good feedback, experiences, that they had “no issues,” and that the breeder was reliable, truthful, and professional. I believe those members I spoke to was the same person running fake accounts to sound legit. I believe the entire FB group is a FRAUD and is run by the same person, the pet breeder. I did some research online and I found this person has scammed others before and taken their money and is selling a counterfeit product. The puppies do not exist. I also found the person uses similar elevator pitch techniques to sound professional and legit. They also use the same photos of available pups with countless different names and different locations where this person resides. This person is good at scamming. He definitely got and fooled me. He’s a serial scammer that must be stopped.
