Locksmith Brooklyn-4-u Reports & Reviews (1)

Let me say this first - this company is 100% a scam and I will be reporting them to the BBB. I should have read the reviews first as well as done research about locksmith companies in NYC.

I called these guys cause I saw a sticker of theirs on my building door so I figured they were associated with the building. It turns out, they were in no way, shape or form associated with the building. They just go around and put stickers on whatever locks or doors they see and trick you into thinking they are partners or work with your building. Unbelievably sketchy.

On their website they list the prices for opening a locked door as $35 +$20 service fee. Ok that seems reasonable. There is no other langauge on the site that indicates any type of additional costs or fee structure. Seems reasonable enough. I call and they have a "technician" at my place within about 45 minutes.

The guy shows up and we go to my door and looks at it and shakes his head and goes "oh no - this is one of THOSE locks. This is near impossible to open without breaking." I ask him what the price is and he says $250 to break it + $65 for his time + another $250+ for a new lock! I actually laughed because I thought he was joking. He confirmed again that it would cost me over $500 to get into my apartment. I didn't need to get in their immediately so I said no thank you I'm not paying for that that isn't what your site said and that is false advertising. He is quick to tell me how he is "trying to help me out" and that that's as low as he could go. Spoiler: it wasn't.

He lowers the price to $450 and still I say no. Then he lowers it to $425. This goes on for 15 minutes and then he goes "ok then give me $65 for my time". I refused as this was obviously a scam from the beginning and responds back by saying "ok then give me $20." So sketchy.

He ended up calling his boss three times and keeps putting me on the phone with him. I explain the situation about how their website was misleading and how I won't be intimiated with this nonsense. Eventually the technician hangs up on his boss and goes "ok how about for $100 I try to open it." So I clarified with him, "you just told me this lock was impossible to open yet you want $100 to ATTEMPT to open it?" The technician fumbled his words as he was obviously caught in a lie and called his boss back again.

The boss asks me how much I am willing to pay and I tell him the exact amount on the website. He tells me to give the phone to the technician and the technician roll his eyes and says ok he will do it for the price on the site. This is how I knew it was a scam from the beginning - HE TAKES OUT A PIECE OF PLASTIC PAPER AND JIMMIES IT INTO THE DOOR AND HAS IT OPEN IN A MINUTE. He knew from the beginning he could get it open and straight up lied and grossly inflated the price on the website.

Avoid this company like the plague. Also want to mention he tried to follow me into my apartment, would only take cash and then refused to make change so we had to go to a bar by me for change.

Apparently this is a word for word scam that you can read about if you Google NYC locksmith scam article from the NY times.

Stay away from this company and be safe people
