National Gaming Control Board Reports & Reviews (6)

Was called to tell me they were investigating Good Housekeeping Awards who were unsuccessful in contacting me about a second place award I had won in the amount of $750,000.00 and all I needed to do was call another number to verify I had won this award. They gave me the number as 1-866-978-4989 to call to get the award. I was provided a claim number (301154) to use for my award. I then looked up the National Gaming Board and found a web site with a number to call to check with them on this. When I called the number from the web site I knew immediately that it was NOT a legitimate organization and that they were connected with the first person I had spoken with that had called me. I knew this right away because both gentleman from both sites had EXACTLY the same foreign accent. The second gentleman said that yes the FIRST caller was a scammer and that the info the first caller gave me was fraudulent but he the said HOWEVER....YOU DO have a legitimate award waiting to be claimed but it is not for $750,000.00 but instead was actually for $950,000.00 ! He said all I had to do was call them and use the GENUINE code number which consisted of the initials of my first and last names plus the last four numbers of my phone number (vl4061) ! That is when I decided to contact you folks because I new all along that this was a huge scam. The first so called award was for $750 thousand and the second was for $950 thousand respectively, with BOTH requiring a SMALL FEE to obtain my so called winnings. So the first fee was for $7,500.00 and the second fee was $9,500.00 !

Something needs to be done to stop these scammers. Too many older people who no longer are sharp enough to catch on to these thieves are being taken to the cleaners and are losing their life savings to these crooks. I am 71 yrs. old but thank the good Lord I have been blessed in that I still have ALL of my cognitive abilities intact. Some don’t however and I will do what I can to help stop these crooks.

The website I found for the so called National Gaming Control Board is: thengbc.com

Their phone number is : 877-373-8338

Address is: 4601 N. Fair fax Dr., Arlington Va. 22203

However I truly doubt any of that information is legitimate.

You folks can call me at 620-625-4061 or on my cell phone at 620-625-5241 to discuss this scam attempt.

Thanks so much for posting this! The EXACT same scenario just happened to me and my wife. It sounds so legit, but I told them that I would do research before I gave them ANY information. Turns out that the 1-866-978-4989 number is the exact same one they gave us. My daughter Googled this number and found your post. Thanks again! These people are so heartless! First they build up all this false hope and then follow that by taking their money.

Scammer called said I won second place from AAA and Walmart sponsorship. I won 975k. After that I said I will call walmart and AAA. And that ended the call.

Cindy or Brad called to say I had won second prize of almost a million dollars. I just had to purchase a bond to receive the prize money. Of course, there was pressure that this was the last day for them to contact me and I would lose the money. The bond cost was over $10,000.

Man on the phone claimed to be from the National Gaming Control Board - a government agency. Stated that I won $100,000 but in order to claim this money, I needed to pay a registration fee of $1900. He stated my name and address without me providing this information and proceeded to say they would send information on how to pay this fee. He asked if I would have cash or some other form of payment. He eventually hung on me because I asked too many questions and said I didn't have any money to pay the fee.

Got a call from National Gaming Control Board, last week, won a million dollars, wants a bonding fee of $1050 over nighted through the mail, due to the Patriot Act. Paul Cannon, US Sweepstakes company, the ussweepstakescompany.com. He said if I decided to send the money, he would put me in touch with a bonding agent and that's who I would send the money to.
