My mom's iPad stopped working one day in Sept 2015. An alert came up on the screen after you sign in and said to call a 1-800 phone number for Technical Support. The alert looked legitimate and I called the number. The tech support person sounded as though he was based out of India. After I told him I called due to alert on the iPad, he handed the phone over to another person (which in retrospect was somewhat strange because you would expect a large tech support center to transfer a call and not just hand the call over to another person.)

He offered a 1 year or 2 year tech support subscription and once I would agree to it, he would help me troubleshoot to get rid of the warning sign. After I agreed to the 2-yr (USD $110/total), he walked me through some steps starting from Settings/General/etc. Even for a lay person like me, I thought the steps were fairly simple to bypass and remembered asking him twice "Are you guys really with Apple?" In which he replied confidently that yes his company is authorized tech support resource for Apple. Before I hung up, I took down his call back number 1-855-615-2278 & hours of operations (Mon-Fri 10-6pm) in case we have more issues. This should have been the other red flag because Tech Support should have extended hours (usually 24/7 especially thru Apple) but it didn't register for me. I was just glad I resolved the issue for my mom.

A few days later, I saw the $110 charge on my credit card. When the credit card statement came home, the business was listed as One Spot Solutions with the website address (www.alpkey.com).

Fast-forward 18mos later in April 2017, my mom's iPad got another bug. This time she couldn't even sign in, nor reboot or shut down the device. I called the handy 1-800 number and got a busy signal. I figured maybe because I'm calling on the weekend and they're not available. But a valid business would have a voicemail (not a busy signal). I knew then I got scammed.

I googled the business name "Alpkey" "One Spot Solutions" "iPad warning alert" and to my chagrin, the search results came up scam scam scam! I'm writing this notice today to alert anyone who may come across this situation to beware.
