Online PC Resolve Reports & Reviews (1)

- Rochester, MI, USA

I received a call with a computerized message stating that my Apple iCloud account had been compromised and I should call 888-320-8649. The person who answered said she works for Apple and claimed that, not only my Apple account but also everything on my devices, was being targeted by a foreign IP that was most likely trying to obtain banking and other such information. She gave the name and address of a store near me that could clean all of my devices of the Tiny Banker trojan virus or, alternatively, it could be done online by "Online PC Resolve." The store would take 4-5 days, whereas online would take 40-50 minutes; either would cost $320-350. A quick online search revealed that the store name & address were bogus and it became apparent that this was a scam to get me to buy the online service. I pressed her for her name, supervisor name, company name & address. She resisted at first, but eventually gave her name as Carol Smith and cited a street address and city near me, with CA as the state. When I called "b.s." on this, she hung up. Next I looked up a contact number for Online PC Resolve (www.onlinepcresolve.com). I asked the person who answered where the company is located (Orlando) and the name of the person who runs the company. She transferred me to someone who claimed to be a floor supervisor. He kept asking why I wanted to know who owned the company. I said that before I do business with an online company, I check basic information to know they're legit. He finally said the owner's name is Steve Martin. I laughed and said, "oh yeah, the comedian." The guy didn't know what I meant by this. I told him to have a nice day and hung up. This is a SCAM that should be investigated and the people involved should be prosecuted. I can understand how someone who doesn't have the technical savvy to ask the right questions could fall for this since they kept stating that personal banking and credit card information might already be compromised. I have also contacted Apple and reported this incident. The person at Apple told me that impersonating an Apple employee is unlawful.
