Prestige Events Reports & Reviews (1)

My friend invited me to attend an event she saw on Facebook taking place in October in a neighboring state. We both purchased tickets before I realized that there was a few red flags. For one, the event page's "discussion" board was closed to commenters. Next, the venue at the top of the event was not linked- very fishy- so I called the venue and they had already had people calling questioning the events legitimacy like me. All they could say was that the event company paid the deposit, but they nothing more outside of that as to what would become of the event. I started digging more into the Prestige's page and realized the address they're using was a two-bedroom condo, and their profile picture was taken from the web from another business who used it at least 6 years ago. Their Facebook page was also only started just last month, just barely over a month ago. There's no record of them before that. As I continued searching for validity, I noticed that they slipped on several occasions and answered inquiries on their page using their personal pages rather than the business'. When I looked at those pages, I quickly saw two women who looked highly questionable as business owners/event planners. I messaged their supposed confirmed vendor and found that they, too, were finding the event planners to be a scam and had pulled out. So I called my credit card company's fraud department to investigate. My final message was to the event planners themselves letting them know my concern about the legitimacy of their event. I figured if they were honest business people, they would reply reasonably and with more to back their event up. Instead, I received several crazy messages before they turned on one another- one claiming she didn't know that the other is working with someone else, and so far they've collected over $10,900 from "innocent people" in Alabama. I've since reported this to the venue's local police department and reached out to mine as well. Honest businesses don't make so many mistakes and then go on the defense. Ask questions! Listen to your gut! make sure every online event you do is fully linked between the ticket sales people, the event coordinators, the venue, and the vendors. All of them should be talking about it and promoting it. And any business looking to use social media to promote, wouldn't turn the ability for others to communicate with their friends within the event off. Basic FB101.
