I applied for a position with Protiviti through MicroSoft Team chat. After the hour interview, they wanted to send me a check for $3,000.00 to order the programs and equipment that I needed. The check would be made out in my name. Is this a scam? I would think that a legitimate company would buy the equipment and send it to me to use, since this is a remote job. I was given the information regarding the position and told there would be a 2 week training program . I was all set to accept the position when she said she was sending me the check. What if the check bounced? Is this a scam?

I was contacted byMrs. Patricia R. Henley from (Protiviti INC) using number 1(713)367-1674 and was informed that they found my résumé on CareerBuilder and they presume I have the qualifications required to attain their data entry/administrative assistant position. They gave me some information about the job and $35 an hour and It’s a remote job and said to text back “INTERESTED” if I wanted an interview. I did so and was messaged back the virtual interview would be held either by phone or laptop on Microsoft Teams app and I would need to download it. I did so and I was directed to contact Mrs. Tiffany Payne ( Hiring Recruiter North America) her Email address being ([email protected]) and I was to message code:COC-50 to verify. I did all of that and started chatting with Mrs Tiffany. She sent the company website(https://www.protiviti.com/us-en.) she then said”You have 5 minutes to go through the company's website and see if the company is a good fit for you.” I tried to open the site but at first it gave a 404 Paige is not accessible notice. I screenshot it it and sent it to her and she said that it is under maintenance and I asked her if she would like me to try again. A minute later I got the website open and read it and i said yes sounds like a good fit. She told me what my duties or responsibilities would be for the position and asked if I would be able to do these things, and I said yes and she told me I would be making $25 an hour for trade to get that $35 an hour after that that it would be remote training that I would have a representative to get in contact with the entire time. She then moved on to ask me 10 questions those questions being: First set of questions.

1) Can you tell me a little about yourself?

2) How did you get your previous jobs?

3)  What type of jobs have you had?

4) Have you been in the military before?

5) Are you currently employed?

Last set of questions.

6)What motivates you ?

Are you seeking a Full time or Part time Position ?

7) What is your clerical speed?

Do you have an idea of how to use MS excel ?

What is your highest educational diploma? When did you receive it?

8)How long do you intend working for this company ?

Do you operate with AT&T, VERIZON or SPRINT (postpaid)network providers?

9) How would you like to be Paid ? Weekly Or Bi-Weekly?

• What means of payment do you prefer ? Direct deposit , Check , Wire Transfer ?

10) What Bank Do you Operate with to see if it tallies with the company's official salary payment account?

After answering these questions, I asked about having the video chat to meet her “ face to face“ and she told me that using Microsoft Teams was a new interview process introduced by the ScamPulse.com then asked me have you never been interviewed on line before? I stated yes I have, but not like this at that point I had looked up and found all these scams and read some of them. She sent me a list of things that I would need to purchase for my mini office, including different office, supplies, and printer to Mini mini different software that I would need to purchase and told me that they would mail me a check to pay for those things that I would need to deposited in my bank and that I would need to purchase those things from their chosen vendor. I was told that their vendor will only take Zell or cash app. She asked me to repeat to her what I would be purchasing with the check that would be sent to me and where I would be getting these items. She asked me to give them my full name mailing address and cell phone number, and I gave them a fake middle name because I knew that they already saw my first and last name, and I gave them a fake telephone number then I was told that they would send the conversation to the head of the department to see if I am qualified for the job and that I would have an 8 AM EST appointment, where I would need to reach out to her to figure out the status of my application.
