Spoofing Ebay Reports & Reviews (1)

- Elkhart, IN, USA

My husband and I were looking for a RV/Camper for the season and I saw a posting on Facebook Market place for a 2010 Keystone Springdale for 1,600, I looked like it was in great shape and I sent the info to him with at tagline of "feel like the price on this isn't quite right" (similar units like this sell for 8,000-10,000) but he contacted the person anyway and they emailed him saying that she was getting rid of the RV because her husband and just passed away and it was full on bad memories, OK fair enough. We then asked where it was located so we could go look at it (FYI the posting said it was in a town just 30 minutes from us) The emailer ("Emily Green") said that she had recently moved to Omaha, NE and is selling through eBay Motors. She went on to say she would have to ship it to us, we would have 5 days to look everything over and if we didn't like it we could deny the deal. She then asked for our names and shipping address. The next day we received an invoice from [email protected], which looked legit, had all the correct badging and everything, stating that we needed to purchase eBay gift cards to pay for the purchase before they would ship the RV, however it also said we would be guaranteed to get all our money back as well. It stated that we could only purchase these cards in 200 dollar increments (so we would need to by 8) and could only buy then with cash or debit. Once we purchased said cards we would call +1 (858) 201-6399 and give them the numbers on the back of each card. This is when we really started to question and think about this purchase. I started to do some digging and found similar scams. Please be aware of these scams and don't ever purchase anything from eBay unless you are paying through eBay. I was also sure to look up eBays actual address and customer service number, neither of which matched what was on the invoice. If you think something is too good to be true, it most likely is. I attached a copy of the invoice they used, if you look at the contact information you will see that it is similar to eBays actual address but slightly off, always do background checks especially if you think something just isn't right.
