- San Marcos, TX, USA

My roommate's phone was disabled and looked up the Apple Care Support number. She calls the number from a fraudulent website (https://sites.google.com/view/sofa-covers-xpotraiq/home) with my phone. I took over the phone call after they asked her to authenticate MY information. They asked for the last four of my social security number - which I stupidly gave them. They also asked her to download a screensharing application which I also downloaded into my phone. The whole process from there was screenrecorded. First they said that they sent me $1 into my Chase account, which I initially didn't find odd, but hindsight is 20/20. They told me to transfer $999 (they said 999 was a "code") to my Apple Pay, which I did. They had me go through my CashApp account, and send a random account (they said it was an account tied to their server) $999 - which did not work. They had me do this repeatedly, all of which times did not work. They then had me download Venmo and send another random account $999 which went through.

They had me put "concert" for the reason why. Next they had me log in to my Chase bank account (Face ID was activated so no username/passwords were compromised...to my knowledge) and use Quickpay through Zelle $998 to another random email address (the first of which did not go through and they had me call my bank while they stayed on hold). The second attempt went through immediately. They asked me to transfer the Apple Pay money back to my account. I was reassured at this point but that's also when I looked up the reviews of the app that was downloaded earlier. All of them were scammed.

That's when I accepted that this could be a total scam and just asked for my money back. I cut off the app that was being used to screenshare and the gentleman on the line asked if there was a store like Walgreens or Rite Aid, CVS and others that may be nearby and ask to buy a "refund card". I told the gentleman there is no such thing and I hung up.
