On March 6, 2019 at approximately 10:30 AM I was reading email on my computer. When I clicked on an email labeled: Sender "USPS" with the subject line: usps ticket no. 58974 en.us We've got a new message for you. Not possible T... my computer immediately locked-up and a message appeared "You have been infected by a Trojan virus. Contact ***. Doing so I talked to an individual with such a heavy Indian accent that it was difficult to understand him. He said his name was "Paul" from "Studio SOS" and for $298 he could fix my computer and install additional software on it. Payment was to be in the form of Master Card or Visa. I was suspicious but eventually gave him my Visa number. Twice Visa rejected the card number. When he said that he could take Discover the transaction was completed. My computer functioned almost immediately and he spent the next 15 minutes installing the additional software. This software turned out to be Google Chrome with Russian writing and an Ad Blocker which later I learned was available for free and was poorly rated.

That same evening "Paul" called me again and told me that my computer was being attacked by numerous hackers. Later I realized that he couldn't have known, as my computer was in sleep mode and the web browsers had been turned off. He showed me, what he claimed was a system page from my computer as evidence. He then stated that he could protect my entire system for a period of 5 years for $989 in the form of a money order. He would also install even more software. I told him that I would not pay by money order or gift cards but only by check! Every time I objected he raised his voice and that my system would not be protected unless I agreed. Finally I informed him that I would mail him the check within 48 hours which I did. The check was to be payable, not to Studio SOS but to Tech Central US in Homestead Florida. Paul then turned me over to a "senior technician" named "Anthony" who sounded suspiciously like "Paul". "Anthony" had the computer for about 1.5 hours. The software proved to be worthless mostly icons and subsequently was entirely and permanently deleted. Knowing that I had been scammed, I had little sleep over the next two nights. I did cancel both credit cards immediately.

The next day (3/7/19) at approximately 6:30 PM "Paul" again called me and demanded that I once again open my computer. I refused and he immediately raised his voice and became argumentative. I hung up the phone and, within seconds, he called again. I hung up without answering and this was repeated two more times until I was able to block his number on both my mobile phone and home phone. The next morning (3/8/19) I went to my bank for advice. The customer service representative advised me to stop payment on the check and reverse the charge on my credit card, which I did. I do not know if the credit card reversal will prove successful. I then called Apple Care and the rep guided me through the process of eliminating all traces of the software added to my computer. I also placed a criminal complaint against Tech Central and Studio SOS with the FBI.

Since then Tech Central repeatedly called me, mostly after 8 PM, which have been blocked. They have left a message demanding that I reverse the stop order on the check. Seeking legal advice, the lawyer confirmed that Tech Central is a scammer and advised me to not issue the reversal order.
