Type of a scam Moving
I performed an Online search for long distance movers and came up with a few companies from what looked like a Moving Company Listing.
I called a few and received some quotes which were well below the big companies.
I did some online checking on the few that I focused on but didn’t come up with any Red Flags.
I followed up with the few I had selected and chose Titan because they assured me that they were their own movers and not just a scheduling outfit.
There was a lot of pressure from all of these companies to sign up right away as that the offered prices wouldn’t last long.
They even followed up with the same approach, commit now or the offer would go up.
There was never any mention of the penalty if your moving plans change.
I was initially told by my salesman that they would start contacting me 1 week before my move.
When I never heard from them, I started constantly calling my salesman.
He Never returned a call from my requests but I did finally Catch him In the Office 2 days later.
When asked about the call 7 days prior to the move, he stated the call was to be at 5 days.
When I pointed out that today Was 5 days out, he said someone would call me right away from the customer care group. That call didn’t come until the next day.
That person informed me that the call for dispatch scheduling would come until the night prior to them coming out.
That meant that someone from their company was going to call me on a Sunday night to tell me they were coming on Monday.
Doubtful.
I Googled the phone number that I was just called on and that was when the Scam became Clear.
Everything that they had been telling me were delay tactics. They use Caller ID so to not answer the phone from the scammed customers. The cell number for my agent has a recorded message that refers to Jimmy when that isn’t the name of the agent I dealt with. When I asked my Agent about that, he said he wasn’t aware and would check on it. 2 weeks later and its the same message. Everything I read about Titan Movers being a Scam was Very concerning.
It was said if they did show up, they would half load your belongings and then ask for more money because your estimated space was filled. If you decided to move forward and pay up, you would than have issues on the delivery end with them asking for more money to make the delivery. We opted to not take the chance with our belongings and called them to Cancel our move. We never were able to speak to anyone nor did they acknowledge our call. We never received that call on Sunday night before our scheduled move day. On Monday afternoon we did get a call from them to set up a time on our Backup Move Day. I informed that person that I had called the prior week about cancelling our move due to the jod move being cancelled.
They said OK and hung up.
I called back the next day to Customer Service and spoke with a gal about getting our deposit back and she said someone would contact me.
That call never came.
I spoke with a Customer Service person today about a refund and she stated that I should have read the part about the initial deposit being Non Refundable. No matter what.
Now, if they hadn’t used such high pressure tactics to get you to sign up immediately or explained by doing so early in the planning of your move, that if the move fell through that you would loose your deposit, I would never have signed on with them.
Now, I would understand a fee for cancelling, but the whole deposit of 35% of the move cost?
That seems excessive when they really haven’t done anything.
I couldn’t even get them to answer my calls or return a message.
Now the Customer Service Agent I just spoke with would do nothing but cite the Moving contract and that there were no other options and no one else in the company to speak to, she was the final authority on this matter.
