An initial letter from Jeffrey Goldstein and check was provided in the amount of $2,993.13. Instructions were to deposit the check, go to an Apple store and buy two gift cards: one for $1300.00 and the other for $1250.00. I was to receive $300.00 plus $100.00 if I was to complete the assignment with 24 hours. In addition, I was to buy a $25.00 money order made out to Feeding America, a charity. I did all of the above and texted the purchase receipt and the image of the back of each gift card after having peeled off the label showing the code. I was told to await for instructions of where to send the money order and gift cards. In the meantime, the scammer asked me if I was ready for my next assignment which I received a few days later and there was a check for $3,999.63. I have only deposited that amount even though similar instructions were included. So, a week after I deposited the first check, my bank received notice that the cashiers check was not good. Fortunately, I read a 23 page dissertation about all kinds of scams which truly educated me for future reference. In it were sample notes like the one I am writing, ways and what to look for to avoid future scams, what the FTC and ScamPulse.com are doing to capture the scammers and all kinds of other pertinent information. Follow the well known adage: "If it sounds too good to be true, then there is something wrong."

I was looking for a job I put my name and address into an online job site to do mystery shopping. I received a check for $2989.37 by FedEx. The return address on the envelope is: Scott D***, *** *** **, Bayfield, CO 81122. The letterhead said Topview Market Survey. It was signed by Ethan Johnson. I thought I was going to take a survey and share what I thought of the company I was visiting. On the backside of the letter is the survey. It reads: "Do not under any circumstance, take this letter with you to the survey". They wanted me to go to the Apple Store and buy 2 Apple gift cards for $2450. I was to scratch the security numbers from the backs of the gift cards, and send them a picture. I was to be paid $350.00. They said the check would cover it. I was to get a cashier's check from the bank. I was to take a picture of the cashier's check and send it to 720-862-5951. There is a watermark on the check.
