We were almost scammed by this dog rescue
I contacted the rescue to adopt Duke. Apparently 'tomorrow' was his day for being ready to rescue. He was located approx 8 hours away from us. Something didnt add up with the way the emails were worded so I lead them on a bit claiming to be really interested and wanting to drive to view. This was all ok and then the contact suddenly stopped when I started asking for addresses and which day worked to drive and meet him.

We were also scammed by this organization. We live in Western Australia and saw the web page advertising dogs for adoption. Union Dog Rescue claimed to be based in Australia (amongst other countries). We opted to apply for Duke, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and everything appeared to be legit. As time went on and following several emails to a person named Erin Liam it became suspicious. We asked if this was a scam but were told they were 300% legit and had supporting documents from the ATO (Australian Taxation Office) and the ACNC (Australian Charities and Not for profit Commission). Alas, we went ahead with the proposed adoption and paid $510 into their bank account which was followed by several emails outlining the delivery process for Duke. Never saw Duke nor received any other information about him. One positive was that we were able to retrieve his banking details which was located at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Parramatta Branch, NSW. Our bank thinks we may have a chance for the recovery of the money.

Following this scam we did a little research and found another pet scam, this time it was parrots being adopted out by, you won't believe it, the same scammers as Union Dog Rescue using identical websites for both scams, apart from the subject pets of course, the parrot website is, https://savesanctuary.com.

I contacted this pet rescue Union Dog Rescue at unionrescue.org and filled out an adoption application for a dog named Marley whose owner had died. I was contacted within the week by Leona stating the dog was ready the next day for adoption. I had to wire a $200 adoption fee through CASH APP (red flag that I ignored). The payment was to be wired to her "logistics coordinator" Tracey Dell and it failed, which they already knew would happen. I had to add cash to my balance and then send the money. If I paid directly from my debit on file with the Cash App it fails. I emailed back this was an issue so we chose the Zelle payment app. I sent the $200 to an [email protected] under the name "Broderick". Of course that went through. I was then repeatedly contacted by Leona via email that the dog was shipped and on its way, with no prior contact from her that I would even be home to receive the delivery. I also was not put in contact with the foster family as promised. Just literally "poof", dog sent (in her actual words!). I then received the most unprofessional emails from Unix Express Logistics delivery company stating the dog was on its way to my local airport, but my home address was in another state? Leona had the audacity to keep contacting me via email that there were updating my address, etc and to be patient, the dog was on its way. I even received photos of Marley from her, and had to send photos of my home to her. A home visit was not feasible due to the long distance and current health crisis (unconscionable to make money off of people dying from COVID).

I received a second email from Unix Logistics threatening me with cruelty to animals if I did not pay a $500 insurance fee to transfer this dog to a more humane crate who was being delivered to my door within the next hour. This email had no return information I where I could call or where to pay (duh). I then received a phone call from an man with an Indian accent about my "dog" being stuck at Chicago O'hare airport (not local like they previously stated). I can wire transfer money or send a gift card in the amount of $500 to have the dog at my door today so it wasn't suffering at the airport. Bingo - you are DEFINITLY a scammer.

I contacted the Union Rescue via phone and email with no response. I contacted Leona and no response. I am out the $200 by going against my better judgement, and common sense, but I will not sit quietly and let that continue. I will be filing a police report (most likely with no luck but hey) and I will post this on every business website to help others.
