United States Government Reports & Reviews (27)

The scammer said that I was being investigated for money laundering and that an arrest warrant was issued by the United States Government. My whole family was being investigated.

- Amarillo, TX, USA

I received two phone calls offering me a $9,700 grant and when I told them the government doesn't call to offer grants they told me it wasn't a scam and both of them hung up on me. The second phone call I tried to tell the lady that I was interested but she hung up on me before I could get any information.

I have been receiving several calls from different numbers but the numbers are close numerically. Not the same area code for the call back number.

The person on the phone tells me that I have been chosen as 1 of 1700. Picked by the US government to recieve a grant of 9400. All I must do is go down to a western union and purchase a $250 ?authorization card in which will be returned to me at Western union with the 9400. So my check will be $9650.

I told him that I didn't have the $250 at the moment but I could get it in a few days. So he gave me his name and call back number with extension. He said to call any time during normal business hours EST.

I told him that I would do so and thanked him.

I figured anything too good to be true, usually is and started doing some research!!!

They call me from different numbers some Washington numbers. They call saying I qualify for a free loan. A grant I don’t give them any info they have mine. They call me 5 times a day when I’m on to them they cuss at me and hang up.

Message left on my phone stating that the caller has been trying to reach me for 6 months in reference to some kind of fraud and that a lawsuit has been filed under my name by the US Government and that I should call 201-380-6972

They said that they are being recorded by the federal government and the FBI and that I would just get my $250.00 back with $9,200 dollars for a total of $9,450.00 and to go tp Western union or they can just send it to my bank account ... Really come on people its a scam domt fall for it please ask people ... Get information

I received two automated messages stating that the federal government is investigating me and my family and they have tried to notify me for the previous 6 months and I have not responded, so they are considering this as intentional fraud and the United States Government is filing a lawsuit under my name. I can call their department at 972-914-1927. I didn't call the number back. I then received the same automated voice message. The messages always start before the outgoing message beeps so the beginning of their message is always cut off.

However one day I did get a little bit upset and they then found some way to hack into my computer system we lost a laptop and a desktop and security breaches and viruses everywhere so we had to purchase a new computer.

Well I actually listen to the entire speech. The this Government grant of $9200 would be wired to me via western union. All I had to do was register with the federal bank verify my bank info then I could go get my money from Walmart.

Both people I spoke w had very heavy foreign

accents. I was not giving out any info and I I told them the last time I recieved a Grant, it was all done electronically- I didnt have to go to Walmart to pick up a money order. I repeated several question back to her, she got tired of me repeatedly asking questions and she hung up on me.

- Spokane, WA, USA

Called twice in a row, left an automated recording after no answer saying I was being investigated by the US Government for not returning a previous call and asked that I call them back.

He explained to me that very year people who have paid their taxes on time are selected to receive thousands of dollars from the US government. I asked him which name he had listed for me (exactly who he was trying to reach) and he hung up.

It was a prerecorded voicemail left on my phone that stated I was being taken to court for fraudulent activity by the United States of America and for more information to call them back before they downloaded my case to the courts. I called back that number and they asked me for my case number and when I said I wanted more info about who they were, they hung up. I then blocked the phone number on my phone, but then got another call a week later by another phone number leaving the exact same prerecorded message on my phone saying to call them back before they downloaded my case to thnew courts.

- Vandalia, IL, USA

Received the call, answered, after asking if they were speaking with "My Name" I answered, "How may I help you?" The voice on the other end of the line said, " I calling on the behalf of the United States Government, to inform you that you have been randomly selected to receive a $9,987.00 grant. We will require you to provide your bank account information as well as your social security number for a direct deposit confirmation." It was then that I broke the connection.

- Mansfield, OH, USA

Her name was Julia and she said she was calling from the United States Government because I had been selected to receive nine thousand dollars and some change. Then she said I received it because I had paid all my bills on time and hadn't filed for bankruptcy in the past 6 months. I told her I thought it was a scam and wanted to be removed from the calling list and she told me "[censored] you" then hung up.

- Floresville, TX, USA

The call initially came in with caller ID 967001. The person calling, Sebastian, said he was contacting me because I was approved to receive a government grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. He stated that because the economy was distressed at that time, the government was giving grants to those who suffered loss. He said I could get $9,000 and I could receive it as a deposit into my checking account, cash or on a card. My internet was slow and he finally gave me a call back number of (315) 226-3872 and I should tell them to get Sebastian. I have never heard of the government handing out money, much less call individuals out of the blue asking if they wanted the money, especially if one did not ever apply for or ask for the money. I decided it was a scam. The gentleman had a strong accent, maybe Indian/Middle Eastern. He seemed impatient and kept asking me if I had found the website yet.

A message on my home phone says that the United States Government is filing a fraud law suit against me and my family. The message says to call 360-502-7162. I did not call the number.

- Mc Arthur, OH, USA
