Universal Media Reports & Reviews (15)

OMG I'm fuming right now. A few years ago, we fell for the Universal Media scam. They call to verify your shipping address and that they're sending you something in the mail for you to review... of course not knowing any better I verified the address. They sent some phony DVD, and an invoice for the "listing". It doesn't even make sense! I remember Frank calling demanding payment, etc. I think we ended up paying but when they sent us a second invoice, we of course did not pay because it wasn't a real thing. Eventually they left us alone... until today!

Frank from Universal Media is now Rick from Emotive Media. Very friendly over the phone, saying our listing for the MB Biz Index is now up for renewal and he wants to send a media kit for us to proof in the mail and that the invoice would come along with it. When I asked for clarification as we do some listings with real industry guides, he said it was something to do with "google search optimization, proof and media kit"... and a bunch of other big words probably to throw you off. I asked pointedly if this was something we already advertise through and he said yes. I said, sure send us something in the mail for us to review.

5 minutes later, I get a call from some other guy in the "shipping department" asking us to "verify our shipping address". And now my spidey senses are tingling... I asked him what it was for, and he said it was for the "order placed with Rick". I said, hold on, I didn't order anything, I thought he was just sending a media kit for us to look at/proof. "Oh, do you want us to send you a media kit?" was his response. I said, NO and this has happened in the past and it doesn't sound like you're legitimate - don't send us anything. He offered to get Rick to call me back, and I said yes, please do that. Still waiting for a call...

I've told my colleagues not to accept any packages from Emotive Media or Universal Media, and to direct any calls from them to me. Beware!

Frank from Universal Media called our receptionist confirmed our address and said that it was time to renew our listing in the AB Business Guide. Our receptionist did not confirm the order and was advised that this was scam in Sept 2019. Since then they have mailed out a promo DVD with an invoice for 599.00 for a 1 year term. Today I received a call from "Frank" to say he was looking for payment on the invoice sent that was confirmed by our receptionist. I told him that I had not ever heard of his company and asked him to send me a copy of invoice via email. So far no email. We will not be paying this.

Someone called me to update/confirm their records for the Canadian Business Guide. I gave our address, not knowing it was a scam. They put me on the line with someone named Rick in Shipping and said they would be sending out a free Canadian business guide to me. When it came in the mail, there were multiple guides along with an invoice. I thought it was supposed to be free, but paid the invoice, again not know better. Within 3 months they called me back and when I said we weren't interested in being in the guide again, they told me I was on a contract to receive them quarterly for a year, but I didn't ever sign anything and didn't agree to that. They sent me another guide, this time with a Saskatchewan guide as well, with a larger invoice. I paid it and told them to stop calling us. They recently did it again and this time they included Canadian, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta and an even larger invoice that before. I sent it all back immediately with a note saying I did not agree to any of it. Now a man named Frank is calling and sending repeated invoices, but not replying to my voicemail when I said I wasn't paying for something I didn't order and sent back.

A young man called our office to speak with our marketing department. He was relaxed and friendly and said it was time to renew our listing and that the cost was $500. He was unable to provide any supporting evidence that we have ever used their service in the past. When asked for a copy of the listing we were told that as the listing has ended they have all been taken down and there is no record of the listing. He was unable to provide any proof that a previous purchase had been made. He said that they were accredited through the ScamPulse.com but a quick google search proved that this was false. The website for the company is unsecured and filled with spelling errors.

They called our office and asked if we wanted to renew our directory listing for Manitoba Business Guide. I was the new owner of the business and didn't think anything of it and thought it was of value. The person I talked to said his name was Dominic and that someone would call back to confirm the info. Someone else called me back minutes late and I just confirmed information that recited but they gave me incorrect info and I tried to give them my correct. I agreed to everything over the phone. They said they would send an invoice with a copy of the guide. I felt something was off and looked online and realized this was a common form of scam. I received the the invoice and confirmed their business name over the internet and saw that there were many hits to them being red flagged. I will not

Frank from Universal Media called our office asking to confirm our business address. Soon thereafter, Universal Media sent a DVD for the "Canadian Oilfield Guide Listing" and an invoice amounting to $650.98 to our office. The listing was never discussed or approved. Universal Media did not respond to any of our attempts to contact them to clarify the charge.

Thirty days after the fake invoice had been "issued", Frank persistently made threatening calls to our office, seeking payment.

Some guy named Frank called our receptionist out of the blue and wanted to confirm our mailing address. After confirming the mailing address, He said he needs to send us some paper work to one of our manager for the manager to review and if it is okay to send it to the address that was confirmed. Our receptionist of course said yes. We received a online marketing DVD a week later and an invoice for $650.98 for the DVD. Frank then calls us everyday saying that he had a recording of us ordering the product and we have to pay for it. A total scam.

I received an IT DVD training video in the mail with an invoice for approx. $600 and then received a voicemail from someone named Frank stating that he was following up on the payment for said invoice (#68082402) and to return his call at 1-866-343-2140 ext. 221.

Universal Media will call you asking to verify your address information, which you do. Once you do this, they send you to a caller that confirms this information to be listed in a "NC Business Guide". They act as if they have already had your information before and as if this is a simple confirmation call for information. They will record this conversation as they confirm the address and will tell you the guide will be sent to your office. They will then send you an invoice of $600 for this guide, a DVD that is phony, and it is nearly impossible to get in contact with them. Once you do manage to make contact, they refuse to revoke the invoice and will playback the conversation where you confirmed your business information as confirmation of a purchase, which it was not. They will become very aggressive over the phone. We have refused to pay the invoice thus far.

I receive solicits all the time for marketing. I work at a hotel. I don't even remember receiving this call. They recorded a call asking me questions that I answered, but DID NOT agree to purchase or pay for anything. They sent me a DVD and an invoice for $599.99. I called to refuse and they said that I verbally agreed over the phone. I asked them to send me the recording, which they refused.

The first contact was by phone a girl acting like she knows you all sweet telling jokes etc and then tries to sell you advertising doesn't say who they are or nothing. We said we weren't interested and hung up. A week we get an expresspost parcel, i signed for it not knowing if the owner knew about this. I just pick up the mail so i signed for it and brought it back to the office. I opened it and asked him what this was about because it had a $650.98 invoice. He said he knew nothing about this. I thought right away A SCAM so i put it aside just in case. Sure enough now they are calling constantly threatening us to pay this bill. We have told them we never ordered and they persist BULLYING us. Today i told them to stop this immediately and hung up. He called again and i said i would report him to the police and hung up. He keeps calling. What can i do? How can I make this stop? Will this affect our credit rating?

Universal Media (Box 32517 CSP Lucerne, Montreal Quebec,H3R 3L7 ), sent us an invoice for an advertising in the "Canadian Oilfield Guide" for $650.98 inc GST. They claimed they had a recording of my voice authorizing the ad, and also told me that I had signed for the package on Dec 15th, 2015. The image of the signature was not mine, nor was it anyone at our office, nor has anyone seen this "guide" in our office. We are refusing to pay the invoice.

They mis-represented themselves saying they were with the Ontario business guide and said we needed to renew our contract with them,(which we do every year) Ontario Business Guide Listing 1 year term. They sent us an invoice for $599.99 plus shipping $19.99 plus HST$80.60=700.58 and a DVD. They call now twice a day. We sent back dvd and letter saying they misrepresented them selves. I see they have done this before on your scam sight using same phone # selling yellow pages

We are a business, so not sure if this is where to complain, but we received a phone call from a guy stating he was with the Canadian Oilfield Guide (not our usual salesperson we deal with)

regarding our ad for the new season. We were planning to renew our ad, so we went ahead and told him yes, then a bit later we received a disc in the mail with an invoice. This was not in fact the real Canadian Oilfield Guide that we advertise in, so we packaged it up and returned it to them by mail refusing to pay.

They have since been calling for payment and faxing invoices, but the item was returned to them unopened.

They have misrepresented themselves as being the Canadian Oilfield Guide, which they are not.
