Universal Sports Auctions #D286 Reports & Reviews (1)

- Albertville, MN, USA • Feb 23, 2024

A friend and I went to a golf show in Minneapolis, MN 2024 and bid on some items during a silent auction for charity offered by the above mentioned company. My friend took pictures of the forms on the 3 items of the bids for the prices I offered before we left because there were no other offers under my name. The other items I was outbid on, so he did not take pictures of those, because we new we would not win the item. A few days after the auction, I was contacted by the company telling me I had won all of my winning bids. I asked for an invoice which showed 4 winning bids. I should have only won 3 winning bids. The one item I placed a bid on was for $200.00 and someone had placed a higher bid of $230.00. The representative told me they knew that I wanted the item I was bidding on, so they gave me the item at their cost $190.00 I told him I believe your company is commiting fraud on the general public by asking to bid on items in a silent auction to raise the price between bidders and then contact the other people bidding on the same item and telling them they won the bid as well and sell them the same item from your warehouse at a lower price. The representative Kevin Jacobs told me it is all for charity so the more money they raise the better right? I told him I agree with raising money for charity, but the manner with which it is being done is more of an ethical thing. I asked to speak with his manager or boss. He refused to transfer me and hung up on me. I called back and asked him again for his manager or boss. He told me neither were available. I told him I could either come down there because I have the address or he can transfer the call. He hung up on me. I tried calling back again and it went immediately to his voicemail. Later in the day, I received a call from a name I didn't recognize on my cell phone, but I answered it anyway, and it was a man who identified himself as Wes from the above mentioned company. He told me he was one of the owners. I told him my concerns about their practice of using a charity event to raise money by using a silent auction to jack up prices on the general public to bid on products, only to contact other people through either email or phone number which is provided as contact information who are bidding on the same items, that they have in their warehouse. I told him I had a problem with this action of defrauding the public. He reeiterated that it was for raising money for charity. I told him I would like to file a complaint with the ScamPulse.com or possibly go to the local news station or talk to an attorney about their business practices. This is my first step in the resolution process.
