My Facebook account was hacked in early October. Given that i could not access my account, a friend provided me with a telephone number for what she believed to be Facebook tech support. I called the number only to find out after a lengthy conversation and passage of information to them that they were scammers. During the first few minutes of the call, they assured me that they could help to unhack my Facebook account, but instead they did what they claimed to be "dummy" withdrawals via two of my cash apps, attempted to get two gift cards, and opened a Venmo credit card in my name. The scammer stated that my cash app, Venmo and Zelle accounts all had spyeye malware attached to them, and he needed to do these dummy transactions in order to ensure the spyeye was removed. He stated that the funds he withdrew would be returned to my bank account within a few minutes, yet it never came back. This is when i realized it was a scam. I reported the fraudulent activity these individuals did to my bank's fraud department and to the local police. The bank refunded the money back to my new account while the matter is being investigated. The whole experience i went though has been traumatizing and frustrating.
