Hey friends I need some advice I think I just fell for a scam but now I don’t know what to do . As I’m walking home from work I recieve a call from no caller id. I ignore it and they leave a voicemail I’ll attach the transcript of the voicemail . I panic thinking it has something to do with my apartment all though logically I know I’ve paid rent broken no rules but still I panic . I call and this woman ask me to give her the case number /reference number I give it to her and she tells me that they have been trying to reach me about serving these papers over a default loan . I’ve only ever taken school loans and one for a super small amount from my credit union . She proceeds to tell me the original debt occurred from a ez corp on 3-6-2014 no way I could have taken out a loan on date which was impossible because I was in the hospital She then says this is the last four of your social and what she says is correct so I confirm it just those last four but the email they had was old and closed.She says she can put a 24 hour hold on it because the address they tried to serve it was wrong it was super close but not right . She said this debt has been sold 3 times before it reached their office I even looked on my credit report and nothing is in collections . Seems super fishy and if it is a scam what are they accomplishing , and how do I protect myself . I called the number back a second time to ask about all the information from the original creditor which she gave me the name and date she had but said all the other information wouldn’t be accessible to me untill discovery a week before my court date If I don’t handle the matter now .
