I received an email from an unfamiliar username claiming to be from paypal which provided me an invoice of $732.00 for a Dell Alienware laptop that I did not purchase. The email listed an invoice number and inaccurate date of 9/2/2022, with my debit card number listed at the bottom. In addition, a "Help Desk" phone number was listed as well. I called the number to cancel this order before the $732.00 was processed in my bank account. After calling that number, a man answered with "Hello?" instead of the typical " This is ____, from paypal how can I help you?", which threw me off guard completely and added more suspicion to this email. I then told him that I did not purchase this order and it needs to be cancelled immediately. He then told me, "sounds like someone stole your credit card" and asked that I stay on the phone longer so that he could transfer me to customer service. I told him no, I need to contact my bank and then he asked again to stay on longer. I then hung up the phone after 2 minutes and contacted my bank immediately. Luckily, no charge of $732.00 was placed on my account yet and the bank cancelled that card immediately.
