billing department service Reports & Reviews (7)

I received a letter from Billing Department Services saying that I owe $947.12 for magazine subscriptions that I never agreed to. They said this would go to my credit report if I did not resolve.

- Franklin, TN, USA

I was sent a letter in the mail claiming that I owed $995.30 for a magazine subscription and that if I did not comply, a negative credit report would be submitted affecting my credit. I called to the 1-800 number provide to see what magazine it was and to advise them I do not owe for any magazine subscriptions. The first time I called, the person hung up the phone. The second person was rude and would not give me any information. The second person stated that they had my credit card information, and that their company verified it with my bank. I believe this to be a scam.

- Walnut Creek, CA, USA

I received a 2/25/17 bill collection notice from Billing Department Service in Los Angeles, CA stating that the Creditor they represent is Publishers Subscriber Center. The letter stated that I was delinquent for a bill of $921.85. I called the Billing Department Service at 800.540.8598 and they said I had agreed to having my credit card charged for $24.95/mo for 5 magazines/mo for a 5 year period. I did no such thing. This is fraud. First of all, I never received any magazines. Second of all, if I had gotten a $24.95 charge on my credit card (which the credit card company said never occurred from 2013 to March 2017, I would have disputed it. Interestingly, the credit card company verified that there were many legitimate charges from other purchases I made, so their claim "that the charges didn't go through" were bogus. Third of all, I hate magazine subscriptions so would never have subscribed to one.

I checked the website of Publishers Subscriber Center and there is no phone number to contact. They say they have been in business for 30 years, yet on the ScamPulse.com, they have only been listed since 2/6/17. There are no ratings, reviews or complaints, so mine is the first complaint. As for Billing Department Service, their website is listed as a plural name on the URL (Billing Department Service(s), not Service), but their name on the text in the website is "Service". Also, their address on the BBB is listed in Sherman Oaks and San Diego, CA not Los Angeles, CA as the debt collection letter indicated.

It should also be noted that when searching on the internet: "Is Billing Department Service legit?" Others have been scammed as well. They have an F rating on BBB because:

"Factors that affect the rating for Billing Department Service include:

10 complaints filed against business

Failure to respond to 10 complaints filed against business."

Sent a letter stating I owed 975.58 to publishers subscriber center. I have 30 days to pay or they will report to the credit bureaus. I have never heard of nor done business with this company. I looked them up online and their are several other people complaining of the same scam.

My husband just received a letter claiming that he had a bill from Publishers Subscriber Center for $959.16 that had been assigned to them for collection. He has never subscribed to any magazines. (Interesting note: My husband's father died about a week before this notice was generated. My husband is a Jr. and the notice is just made out to their name, no Jr. or Sr. designated. The notice was sent to an old address. I wonder if they were not trying to scam my deceased father-in-law's wife?)

I received a phone call from this company called Billing Department Service. I was told I owe 900 plus dollars for magazine subscriptions from 2012. I never heard of the company before in my life. I never received any of the said magazines , or a bill of any kind. the person I talked to said I could dispute it through what ever they were sending in the mail. I read reviews about this company on your website all were identical stories to mine.

Received a letter claiming my wife's "account" had been assigned to their office for collection. The letter wants her to notify their office of a dispute, or they will assume the debt to be valid. The creditor is listed as "Periodical Warehouse". I did an internet search and could not find any evidence that Periodical Warehouse or Billing Department Service are companies that actually exist. Of course, my wife never bought anything from a company called Periodical Warehouse.
