My personal computer suddenly started making a beeping alarm noise and a full-screen warning showed up saying that I had just been infected with a computer virus and to call MICROSOFT tech support at the phone number shown in large numbers. I called and was told that my wireless network was 'violated' and my credit cards were being used. When I asked what cards, they couldn't say, but spouted off a list of credit card numbers that didn't match mine and told me my name was on them and being used across the U.S. (I found out later this is standard procedure to FRIGHTEN you into agreeing to have them 'scrub' your system). I was scared. Actually, my mother had just died the night before and I wasn't thinking straight. They told me that they would send me a MONITORING SERVICE CONTRACT at $99/year to patrol my wireless system. Then I was told I had to speak to a tech. The 'tech' didn't know anything about the wireless monitoring, but said the problem was with my computer and if I would give him control, he would search my computer and 'clean' out the virus. I was an emotional wreck and told him ok. First he had me verbally agree that I had not been coerced and sign a form that gave them my BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER and consent for payment. THEN I WATCHED AS HE took control of my computer. He started deleting files. The files names sped past on the screen as he worked. But I DID NOTICE HE PROMPTLY DELETED MY ANTI-VIRUS AND ANTI-SPYWARE software. I saw those file names zip past. It was then that I started to think, "what have I done?"

He 'finished' in about 2 minutes and then told me that I could PAY MORE to receive MORE PROTECTION. I declined.

Later I found out that the original 'Warning' message on my computer was BOGUS. THEY SHOWED A MICROSOFT NAME WITH THEIR CONTACT NUMBER. Making you think this was a legitimate service. WHAT THEY DID WAS DELETE MY ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE AND INSTALL SPYWARE.

THEN THEY GOT MY BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER OUT OF ME and maliciously misled me into signing a document that said I agreed to all this under the guise of providing a 'service contract'.

I later found out such a 'contract' isn't necessary. THERE NEVER WAS A VIRUS, THEY PLACED THAT MISLEADING AD AND DIRECTED ME TO THINK I WAS SOLVING A COMPUTER EMERGENCY. THERE NEVER WAS ANY SERVICE CONTRACT. THERE NEVER WAS ANY 'SERVICE'. DIFFERENT 'TECH'S' TRIED TO UPSELL THE PRICE, BUT DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE PREVIOUS TECH HAD 'OFFERED' - GOING SO FAR AS TO CONTRADICT THE PROPOSAL OF THE FIRST 'TECH', BUT SAYING IT WOULD COST MORE.

I had to CLOSE MY BANK ACCOUNT since they had my account number and then have a REAL COMPUTER TECH the I personally knew re-work my computer, though he said since it had been COMPROMISED he could never ensure that it would not be vulnerable.

These people will call you everyday saying they are from Microsoft or Windows Technical Support. I get a phone call everyday sometimes 2 times a day saying my computer has a virus or corrupted software. They ask if I am in front of my computer, that they have my computer ID number, etc. They get very aggressive. I tell them I am not on the Federal DO NOT Call List and they continue to call every day. It is continual harassment. I have contacted .Microsoft directly to report this company and Microsoft told me that they will NEVER contact a person directly unless that person contacts Microsoft and wishes to receive ONE call back to resolve the Microsoft issue.

So I am on the Federal DO NOT CALL list and this morning when I received the phone call from "Windows Technical Support" I told them that they are calling me illegally and breaking a Federal law. They immediately hung up.

This is a BIG Scam and they should be arrested for breaking a Federal Law by continuing to call someone on the DO Not Call List.

While using my computer it locked up and a screen came up saying to call phone number to help free it up.

They said it was a ZEUS Malware that could remove personal info and they could clear it out. Since it was malware my antivirus app. could not prevent it from getting in.

For a fee of $150.00 they could clear it out and for an additional $250.00 I could have 3 years protection and 6 months service.

They would not take a credit card for payment but wanted a check asking for route # and account #.

They then got into the computer and supposedly fixed it.

I was able to have the bank close the checking account before money was taken out.
