Canyon County Deputy Kevin Curl County Sheriff's Office Imposter Reports & Reviews (2)

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I received this call through my Psychology Today profile. The voice was male with a strong Southern/Texas accent.

He told me that I had warrants out for my arrest due to failure to appear in court for one of my juvenile clients. He gave my correct business address and told me that a secretary had signed for it. He had me write down my warrants: failure to appear 221cv2504, and
contempt of court 221cv1998. He said I would need to pay my bail and appear at the sheriff's office ASAP, or I would be arrested.

He said my bail was $3,000. He said I would get the money back if it was determined that I had not received the summons. I told him I did not have that much money. He "spoke to his supervisor" and had it reduced to $2,000. He made me stay on the line while I withdrew the money from my bank. Then he made me drive to a Wells Fargo and deposit it into a certain bank account.

He told me he had received my bail money, and that I would now need to meet him at the sheriff's office to make a statement and clear my case. He stayed on the line with me while I drove to the sheriff's office. When I arrived, he said he saw me and hung up.

I was waiting for him to appear, and I finally spoke to someone at the front desk to ask about him. That was when I learned it had been a scam. I filed a police report at that time and reported it to both banks.

The number he called me from was512-854-9779, and the number he texted me from was 512-265-1222.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, I received a call on my business phone number that came through my business listing at Psychology Today.com.

It was a male voice with a "western" accent saying he was Deputy Kevin Curl with Canyon County Sheriff Office.

They said I had missed a court appearance on 11/16 to testify in court about a juvenile case and that the judge had issued two warrants for my arrest as follows

first warrant is for FTA citation number 221CV2504.

second warrant is for COV 221CV1998.

Minimum fine.

$3,000.

They said I was to talk to no one about this, stay on the phone, and bring cash to a secure government location to pay. They said since I missed the court appearance due to not receiving the mailed notice, I would likely be refunded the $3000. They confirmed my office address as where the notice was sent to (the just got the address from psychology today probably) and they made me do a verbal statement that on this date and time I did not appear in court because I didn’t receive notice.

I started to say “I don’t think this is how it works, have a good thanksgiving” and they said that police officers would show up at my address to arrest me. I told them I would deal with it if it happened and they hung up.
